Sarawak police close final chapter as Long Lellang crash victims return to families

The Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, has confirmed that the remains of the five victims from the September 8 helicopter crash in Long Lellang have been returned to their families.

The process included identifying personal belongings for family handover, while flight arrangements for transporting the remains are being coordinated by Layang-Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd.

The crash, which involved a Flying Doctor Service helicopter, resulted in the deaths of all on board.

The Air Accident Investigation Bureau is set to announce the cause, while the police investigation has been classified as a Sudden Death Report.

MIRI, Sept 12 — The remains of all five victims of the Sept 8 helicopter crash in Long Lellang have been handed over to their respective families, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

He said the remaining process involved identifying the victims’ personal belongings for handover to their families.

“Alhamdulillah, I have just come out of the Forensic Department and we are now carrying out the identification process of the personal belongings to be handed over to the families.

“Technically, we have handed everything over (remains of the victims), but there may be some issues with arranging the aircraft, so they may be flown out tomorrow (Sept 13).

“As far as the police are concerned, we have handed the victims over to their families for further arrangements,” he told reporters outside the Miri Hospital mortuary today.

He said two of the victims would be flown to Peninsular Malaysia, while the other three would be buried in Miri and Kuching.

Flight arrangements and related matters would be handled by Layang-Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd, he added.

“The respective families will liaise with Layang-Layang Aerospace. As far as the police are concerned, we have handed all the victims over to their families for the next process, including the flight arrangements,” he said.

On the cause of the crash, Mohamad Zainal said the matter would be announced by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau.

As for the police investigation, he said the case had been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR), with statements from 19 witnesses recorded so far.

“I will provide further updates later,” he said.

Mohamad Zainal also thanked the Department of Chemistry Malaysia for working tirelessly to complete the DNA identification process within 24 hours.

“As early as 6am today, they informed us that the DNA samples had been analysed and matched the markings we made at the scene with the victims we had identified,” he said.

The helicopter, operated under the Flying Doctor Service (FDS), crashed at the Long Lellang STOLport at about 3.40pm on Sept 8, killing all five people on board.

The victims were pilot Capt Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and staff nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44.

Dr Ainul’s remains are expected to be flown to Kelantan, while Capt Zainol’s remains are expected to be flown to Kuala Lumpur at 8.30am tomorrow (Sept 13). Debra’s remains are expected to be airlifted to Kuching at about 9am.

Dr Ainul is expected to be buried at the Sri Kedeper Muslim Cemetery in Kota Bharu, while Capt Zainol’s remains will be brought to his home state of Negeri Sembilan.

Alexson Adit is expected to be laid to rest at the Anglican Cemetery in Lambir, while Jessie Paya is expected to be buried at the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) cemetery, also in Lambir.

Meanwhile, Debra’s remains are expected to be transported to her family home in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, Kuching. — The Borneo Post

他说，接下来的工作包括清点遇难者的个人物品，以便移交给他们的家人。

“感谢真主，我刚从法医部门出来，我们现在正在进行个人物品的鉴定工作，以便将物品移交给家属。

“从技术上讲，我们已经移交了所有东西（遇难者的遗体），但安排飞机方面可能存在一些问题，所以它们可能会在明天（9 月 13 日）被运走。

“就警方而言，我们已经将受害者移交给他们的家人，以便他们做出进一步安排，”他今天在美里医院太平间外告诉记者。

他说，两名遇难者将被空运至马来西亚半岛，其余三名遇难者将被埋葬在美里和古晋。

他补充说，航班安排及相关事宜将由 Layang-Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd 公司负责处理。

他说：“相关家属将与拉央拉央航空航天公司联系。至于警方方面，我们已经将所有遇难者移交给他们的家人，以便进行后续程序，包括安排航班。”

关于坠机原因，穆罕默德·扎伊纳尔表示，此事将由航空事故调查局公布。

至于警方的调查，他说该案已被列为猝死报告（SDR），目前已记录了 19 名证人的证词。

“稍后我会提供更多最新消息，”他说。

莫哈末·扎伊纳尔也感谢马来西亚化学系不懈努力，在 24 小时内完成了 DNA 鉴定过程。

他说：“今天早上6点，他们就通知我们，DNA样本已经分析完毕，与我们在现场做的标记和我们确认的受害者相符。”

这架隶属于飞行医生服务队 (FDS) 的直升机于 9 月 8 日下午 3 点 40 分左右在龙乐浪短距起降机场坠毁，机上五人全部遇难。

遇难者是 30 岁的飞行员 Zainol Afiq Bee Sham 上尉；医疗官员 Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin 博士，33 岁；助理医务官 Alexson Adit Henry，31 岁；以及 40 岁的护士黛布拉·莫塞特 (Debra Moset) 和 44 岁的杰西·帕亚·乔克 (Jessie Paya Jok)。

预计艾努尔医生的遗体将被运往吉兰丹，扎伊诺尔上尉的遗体将于明日（9月13日）上午8点30分运往吉隆坡。黛布拉的遗体预计将于上午9点左右空运至古晋。

预计艾努尔博士将被安葬在哥打巴鲁的斯里凯德珀穆斯林公墓，而扎伊诺尔上尉的遗体将被运回他的家乡森美兰州。

预计 Alexson Adit 将安葬在兰比尔的圣公会墓地，而 Jessie Paya 预计将葬于兰比尔的婆罗洲福音传教团 (BEM) 墓地。

与此同时，黛布拉的遗体预计将被运回位于古晋巴达旺县塞马当村的家中。——《婆罗洲邮报》
