Anwar says Malaysia set to gain from new investment, industrial cooperation with India

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's meetings with leading companies in New Delhi underscore confidence in Malaysia's economic potential and aim to bolster strategic sectors through quality investments.

Discussions with firms like DRB-Hicom, Segula Technologies India, AWL Agri Business Ltd, and Motherson Group focused on enhancing cooperation in automotive, engineering, agribusiness, and digital solutions.

These initiatives seek to create high-value jobs, strengthen local industries, and leverage Malaysia's strategic position in regional markets.

Anwar's visit coincides with his attendance at the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit.

NEW DELHI, Sept 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said his meetings with representatives of several leading companies here today reflect the continued confidence of industry players and investors in Malaysia’s economic potential and direction.

“The Madani Government will continue to facilitate quality investments that strengthen local industries, create high-value jobs, and ensure that the benefits are felt by the people,” he said.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, met representatives of DRB-Hicom, Segula Technologies India, AWL Agri Business Ltd and Motherson Group to discuss opportunities to expand investment and industrial cooperation between Malaysia and India in strategic sectors.

The first meeting was held with representatives of DRB-Hicom, who were accompanied by their strategic partners, to explore opportunities for cooperation with the automotive industry in India.

“I then met with the leadership of Segula Technologies India, a global engineering and technology company, which expressed the intention to establish a global engineering centre in Malaysia by the end of 2026,” he said in a post on social media.

The initiative, he said, could strengthen Malaysia’s local engineering capabilities through the hiring of Malaysian talent and the application of artificial intelligence expertise in the automotive, aerospace, energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Meanwhile, the meeting with AWL Agri Business Ltd, one of the major companies in India’s agribusiness sector, explored efforts to increase its purchase of products from Malaysian suppliers, Anwar said.

The company has imported about RM1.5 billion worth of Malaysian palm oil products, creating opportunities to expand cooperation in palm oil, specialty fats, oleochemicals and other downstream products.

“I also met with representatives of Motherson Group, who shared plans to expand their information technology and digital solutions business in Malaysia,” the Prime Minister said.

The move would leverage on the strengths of local talent, Malaysia’s digital infrastructure, and the country’s strategic position as a gateway to regional markets, he added.

Anwar arrived here on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. This is his second visit to India in his capacity as Prime Minister, following his visit in August 2024. — Bernama

总理表示：“我还与 Motherson 集团的代表会面，他们分享了在马来西亚拓展信息技术和数字解决方案业务的计划。”

他补充说，此举将充分利用本地人才优势、马来西亚的数字基础设施以及该国作为区域市场门户的战略地位。
