Police in Johor Bahru have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of robbing, assaulting, and intimidating two Rohingya men in Taman Perling.

The suspect allegedly demanded UNHCR cards and stole a lawnmower during the incidents.

Authorities seized a lawnmower, parang, and other items from the suspect, who is in custody pending further investigation.

The case is being examined under sections of the Penal Code related to robbery, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.

JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 13 — Police have arrested a 25-year-old local man suspected of robbing, assaulting, and criminally intimidating two Rohingya men in Taman Perling here.

Johor police chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received reports regarding the incidents on Sept 9 and 10 from the victims, aged 25 and 35.

“The first victim was riding a motorcycle looking for lawn-mowing clients when the suspect stopped him, demanding and snatching his UNHCR card and lawnmower. The suspect then confronted the second victim nearby, demanding his UNHCR card before punching and threatening him during an altercation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Following a tip-off, a team from the Johor Bahru Utara district police headquarters criminal investigation department arrested the suspect in Taman Perling at 5.40 pm yesterday.

Ab Rahaman said police seized a lawnmower, a parang, a UNHCR card, a motorcycle key, and a set of clothes. The suspect, who tested negative for drugs but has a prior criminal record, has been remanded for seven days until Sept 18 to assist investigations.

“Police are verifying the authenticity of the victims’ UNHCR cards with the UNHCR Office in Kuala Lumpur. At the same time, we stress that any party other than the authorities who detains, blocks, or checks an individual’s identification documents is acting against the law,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery, Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation. — Bernama

柔佛州警察总长拿督阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼·阿尔萨德表示，警方于9月9日和10日接到两名受害者（分别为25岁和35岁）的报案，称发生了这两起事件。

“第一名受害者当时骑着摩托车寻找割草客户，嫌疑人拦住他，抢走了他的联合国难民署证件和割草机。随后，嫌疑人在附近与第二名受害者对峙，索要他的联合国难民署证件，并在争执中殴打并威胁他，”他昨天在一份声明中说。

根据线报，新山北区警察总部刑事调查部门的一个小组于昨天下午 5 点 40 分在 Taman Perling 逮捕了嫌疑人。

阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼表示，警方缴获了一台割草机、一把马来刀、一张联合国难民署卡、一把摩托车钥匙和一套衣物。嫌疑人毒品检测呈阴性，但有犯罪前科，已被还押七天至9月18日，以协助调查。
