Health Minister: FDS crash victims’ remains handed over to families after DNA identification

The remains of the five victims of the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Sarawak were returned to their families after being identified through DNA analysis.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad coordinated the transportation of the remains to their respective burial sites, with support from the Malaysian Armed Forces.

He expressed gratitude to all involved agencies and emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation for medical evacuation operations.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health is temporarily suspending Flying Doctor Service operations to facilitate the investigation and review process.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — The remains of the five victims of the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, Sarawak, were handed over to their respective families this morning at the Forensic Department of Miri Hospital after their identities were confirmed through DNA analysis.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad said the Ministry of Health (MOH) coordinated the transportation of the remains to their respective final resting places following official confirmation of their identities by the police and the Department of Chemistry.

He said the remains of medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin will be flown from Miri to Kota Bharu, Kelantan on a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) special aircraft before being buried at Seri Kedeper Muslim Cemetery, Kampung Baung, Pengkalan Chepa.

“The remains of nurse Debra Moset will be laid to rest at Kampung Semadang, Padawan tomorrow, while nurse Jessie Paya Jok’s remains will be taken to her home today, with her funeral to be held at BEM Cemetery Lambir, Miri tomorrow.

“The remains of assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry would be taken to his family home today, with the funeral scheduled for Tuesday (Sept 15) at Anglican Cemetery Lambir, Miri,” he said in a statement.

He said the remains of pilot Capt Zainol Afiq Bee Sham will be flown from Miri to Kuala Lumpur International Airport on a Malaysia Airlines flight before being buried at Forest Heights Muslim Cemetery, Senawang, Negeri Sembilan.

Dzulkefly expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) for providing logistical support through the RMAF to facilitate the repatriation of the remains to Peninsular Malaysia.

He also thanked the police, Department of Chemistry, Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Miri Hospital management and all agencies involved, from the search and rescue (SAR) operation through to the handling of the remains.

Meanwhile, he said the ministry would continue to strengthen its strategic cooperation with JBPM to support the smooth implementation of medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operations following the temporary suspension of FDS services to facilitate investigations, review and a comprehensive assessment.

He also expressed his appreciation to Malaysians for their concern, prayers and support for healthcare personnel and the victims’ families. — Bernama

吉隆坡，9月13日讯——今天上午，在美里医院法医部门，经DNA分析确认身份后，在砂拉越巴南龙乐浪发生的皇家飞行医生服务队（FDS）直升机坠毁事故中遇难的五名遇难者的遗体被移交给各自的家属。

卫生部长拿督斯里祖基菲里·阿末表示，在警方和化学部门正式确认死者身份后，卫生部协调将遗体运送到各自的最终安息地。

他说，医务人员阿伊努·巴拉·卡马鲁丁博士的遗体将乘坐马来西亚皇家空军（RMAF）特种飞机从美里飞往吉兰丹州哥打巴鲁，然后埋葬在Pengkalan Chepa Kampung Baung的Seri Kedeper穆斯林坟场。

“护士黛布拉·莫塞特的遗体将于明日安葬在巴达旺的甘榜塞马当，而护士杰西·帕亚·乔克的遗体将于今日运回家乡，她的葬礼将于明日在美里兰比尔的BEM公墓举行。

“助理医务官亚历克森·阿迪特·亨利的遗体将于今日运回其家中，葬礼定于周二（9月15日）在美里兰比尔圣公会墓地举行，”他在一份声明中说。

他说，飞行员 Zainol Afiq Bee Sham 上尉的遗体将由马来西亚航空公司的航班从美里运往吉隆坡国际机场，然后安葬在森美兰州森那旺的森林高地穆斯林公墓。

祖基菲里对马来西亚武装部队（MAF）表示感谢，感谢其通过马来西亚皇家空军（RMAF）提供后勤支持，以协助将遗骸运回马来西亚半岛。

他还感谢了警方、化学部门、消防救援部门（JBPM）、砂拉越伊斯兰宗教部门（JAIS）、美里医院管理层以及所有参与搜救行动和遗体处理的相关机构。

与此同时，他表示，在FDS服务暂时中止以方便调查、审查和全面评估之后，卫生部将继续加强与JBPM的战略合作，以支持医疗后送（MEDEVAC）行动的顺利实施。
