Police shoot at car after couple allegedly try to ram traffic officers, detained within 24 hours

In a recent incident in Bandar Putra, Kulai, police fired at the tyre of a vehicle after a couple allegedly attacked a police motorcycle and attempted to injure officers during a night inspection.

The suspects, a 23-year-old couple, managed to flee but were subsequently apprehended within 24 hours.

Both suspects had negative preliminary drug tests and no prior criminal records.

Investigations are ongoing under several sections of the Penal Code, including attempted murder and obstructing a public servant.

KULAI, Sept — Police fired one shot at the tyre of a car after a 23-year-old couple allegedly rammed a police motorcycle and tried to hit officers during an incident in Jalan Kenari, Bandar Putra, Kulai, early yesterday.

Kulai District Police Chief ACP Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at about 1.20 am when members of the district police headquarters’ Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) stopped a black Perodua Myvi in the area after finding it suspicious, with a local man and woman inside the vehicle.

“During the inspection, the suspects became aggressive and tried to flee by ramming the URB motorcycle and a public vehicle, a Mazda CX-5, besides attempting to hit the police officers.

“Following this, the URB personnel fired one shot at the tyre of the suspects’ vehicle to defend themselves and stop the vehicle. However, the suspects managed to escape,” he said in a statement today.

He said a URB officer suffered minor injuries to his leg after becoming trapped when the police motorcycle was struck by the suspects’ vehicle.

Tan said within 24 hours of the incident, Kulai police arrested the male and female suspects separately in Bandar Putra, Kulai and Kluang between 11.30 am and 8.30 pm yesterday.

Police also seized the black Perodua Myvi believed to have been used in the incident, along with a remote control.

Tan said preliminary urine screening tests on both suspects were negative, while checks found that neither had a previous criminal record.

“The motive for the incident is still under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 332 for voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant and Section 186 for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties,” he said.

Both suspects will be brought before the Johor Bahru Magistrates’ Court today for a remand application. — Bernama

古来警区主任陈成利助理警监表示，事件发生在凌晨1点20分左右，当时警区总部摩托车巡逻队（市区）的警员在该地区拦下一辆黑色Perodua Myvi汽车，发现车内有一名当地男子和一名当地女子，觉得这辆车很可疑。

“在检查过程中，嫌疑人变得具有攻击性，并试图逃跑，他们撞击了 URB 摩托车和一辆公共汽车（马自达 CX-5），此外还试图袭击警察。

“随后，URB人员向嫌疑车辆的轮胎开了一枪，以自卫并阻止车辆行驶。然而，嫌疑人还是逃脱了，”他今天在一份声明中说。

他说，一名 URB 警官在警用摩托车被嫌疑车辆撞击时被困住，腿部受了轻伤。

谭警官表示，事件发生后24小时内，古来警方于昨日上午11点30分至晚上8点30分之间，在古来、布特拉和居銮分别逮捕了这名男性和女性嫌疑人。

警方还缴获了据信与该事件有关的黑色 Perodua Myvi 汽车以及一个遥控器。

谭表示，对两名嫌疑人的初步尿检结果均为阴性，调查发现两人此前均无犯罪记录。

“事件动机仍在调查中。目前，该案件正根据《刑法》第307条（谋杀未遂）、第332条（故意伤害公务人员）和第186条（妨碍公务人员履行职责）进行调查。”他说道。
