A fire broke out along a residential corridor in Woodlands on Monday (Sept 14) night, triggering a swift community response as neighbours extinguished the blaze before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived.
The SCDF told AsiaOne that they were alerted to the incident at Block 693B Woodlands Avenue 6, part of the Admiralty Grove HDB cluster, at around 9.35pm.
The fire involved a shoe rack located along the common corridor on the eighth floor.
Members of the public extinguished the fire using hosereels prior to SCDF's arrival.
SCDF reported no injuries and said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The police told AsiaOne they received several calls for assistance at Block 693B Woodlands Avenue 6 at about 9.35pm on Sept 14, adding that police investigations are ongoing.
Strong kampung spirit on display
Details of the community effort surfaced online after a video of the incident was shared on the Instagram account sgfollowsall on Tuesday.
According to the post's caption, the blaze broke out following what residents described as "something exploding".
"Neighbours quickly came together to help during the incident, showcasing the strong 'Kampung Spirit' within the community," the post read.
TikTok user faithchong_23 expressed pride in seeing her husband step up during the emergency.
In her video, the man is seen rushing along the smoke-filled corridor with a fire extinguisher to help put out the flames.
She also thanked several boys who stepped forward to help, adding in the post caption that she loved the strong kampung spirit shared among her Admiralty Grove neighbours.
