Man, 68, flung from bus and suffers head injury; family upset over delayed updates from Tower Transit

A 68-year-old man was injured after he was allegedly flung from his seat when a Tower Transit bus applied its brakes suddenly on Tuesday (Sept 1).

According to Stomp, the passenger was travelling on bus service 858 at around 12.20pm when the incident happened on Woodlands Avenue 7 towards Woodlands Interchange.

His son, who goes by the name Jeremy, said that his father was seated near the front of the bus and facing forward when the bus suddenly braked.

His father reportedly fell forward onto the rear-facing seats and hit his head. He briefly lost consciousness and was later attended to by the bus captain and two passengers.

He suffered a bleeding head wound and significant swelling and bruising around his right eye.

The man was unable to walk after the incident and had to be taken off the bus on a stretcher.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told AsiaOne that it received a call for assistance along Woodlands Avenue 7 at about 12.25pm on Tuesday.

The passenger was taken to Woodlands Hospital.

Family upset over delayed updates

Jeremy said that the family learned about the incident only when his father contacted them from the hospital at around 1.25pm.

The son he subsequently contacted Tower Transit at around 2pm and again at about 3pm but was unhappy with the updates received.

Jeremy claimed that no one from the bus operator contacted the family to check on his father's condition that day.

He eventually reached out to Tower Transit management through personal contacts, after which a customer service manager called him at around 10.30pm, according to Stomp.

His father has since been discharged from Woodlands Hospital with four days of hospitalisation leave.

Tower Transit explains incident

Tower Transit told AsiaOne that it is aware of the incident.

The bus operator identified the passenger as Mr Goh and said its investigation found that a motorcycle in front of the bus had come to a sudden stop, causing the bus captain to apply emergency brakes.

Mr Goh, who was travelling on the bus, fell forward onto the rear-facing seats and was injured, Tower Transit said.

The bus captain and other passengers attended to him while the operator's Bus Operations Control Centre activated an ambulance.

Tower Transit said its customer experience team called Mr Goh at about 2pm, less than two hours after the incident, but was unable to get through.

His son later called the operator and was expecting an update, which was only provided at about 10.30pm that day, Tower Transit added.

The operator apologised to Mr Goh's family for the delay during what it described as a distressing time.

It added that it would continue to offer its full support, including assistance with necessary claims.

"We wish Mr Goh a full and speedy recovery."

家人对延迟更新感到不满

杰里米说，直到下午 1 点 25 分左右，他父亲从医院联系他们时，全家人才知道发生了这件事。

儿子随后在下午 2 点左右和 3 点左右分别联系了 Tower Transit，但对收到的更新信息并不满意。

杰里米声称，当天公交车公司没有人联系他们家询问他父亲的情况。

据 Stomp 报道，他最终通过私人关系联系到了 Tower Transit 的管理层，之后一位客户服务经理在晚上 10 点 30 分左右给他打了电话。

他的父亲已从伍德兰兹医院出院，并获准住院四天。

Tower Transit 解释了这起事件

Tower Transit 告诉 AsiaOne，他们已经知晓此事。

巴士运营商确认该乘客为吴先生，并表示调查发现，巴士前方的一辆摩托车突然停下，导致巴士司机紧急刹车。

Tower Transit公司表示，当时乘坐该巴士的吴先生向前摔倒在面向后方的座椅上，受了伤。

公交车司机和其他乘客照顾他，同时公交运营控制中心启动了救护车服务。

Tower Transit 表示，其客户体验团队在事发后不到两小时的下午 2 点左右致电 Goh 先生，但未能接通。

Tower Transit补充说，他的儿子后来打电话给运营商，希望得到最新消息，但直到当天晚上10点30分左右才得到消息。

运营商就延误一事向吴先生的家人道歉，并称这是一段令人痛苦的时期。

该公司还表示将继续提供全力支持，包括协助处理必要的索赔事宜。
