Parents demand murder charge for Nagoya jumper who killed daughter in suicide plunge

AICHI (TR) – The parents of a 23-year-old woman who was killed when a suicidal man plunged from a Nagoya apartment building and landed on her have met the suspect in detention, demanding he face murder charges, reports Tokai TV (Aug. 31).

In the early hours of July 19, Tomoki Inaba was walking with a friend along a sidewalk in the bustling Sakae 5-chome district of Naka Ward when she was struck and killed by a man plummeting from a building above.

On August 27, police arrested 29-year-old Nobunari Taguchi on suspicion of gross negligence resulting in death. Investigators determined that Taguchi failed to take due care despite being able to foresee the danger his suicide attempt posed to pedestrians.

However, Inaba’s grieving parents refuse to accept the current charges. They argue that because Taguchi leaped into a highly trafficked area, he acted with willful negligence — knowing his actions could kill a bystander but jumping anyway. They are urging prosecutors to upgrade the charge to murder.

Seeking answers, the victim’s parents visited Taguchi at the Aichi Prefectural Police’s Naka Station on August 31, speaking with him face-to-face for about 15 minutes.

Before the meeting, Inaba’s father expressed his profound grief and anger. “As a bereaved family who lost a daughter in such a way, we are filled with a sense of unforgiveness. I want him to tell us everything he knows,” he said.

Recalling the tragic night, he added, “I heard she was lying out here. I drove to the hospital hoping it was a lie, unable to believe it.”

Following the jailhouse confrontation, the father revealed that Taguchi offered an apology, telling them, “I am deeply sorry for taking your precious family member in this manner.”

Crucially, the father stated that Taguchi admitted he knew innocent bystanders could be harmed.

“When asked if he considered the possibility of hitting a pedestrian, he said he did,” the father told reporters. “That is exactly what I wanted to confirm by meeting him in person. He must live and atone for his crime.”

Police have not disclosed whether Taguchi has formally admitted to the criminal allegations, but they are continuing to investigate the incident as a suicide attempt.

为了寻求答案，受害者的父母于 8 月 31 日前往爱知县警察署那珂分局拜访了田口，与他面对面交谈了约 15 分钟。

会前，稻叶的父亲表达了他深深的悲痛和愤怒。“作为失去女儿的家属，我们心中充满了无法原谅的痛苦。我希望他能把所有他知道的事情都告诉我们。”他说。

回忆起那个悲惨的夜晚，他补充道：“我听说她躺在这里。我开车去医院，希望这只是个谎言，我简直不敢相信。”

在监狱对峙之后，父亲透露田口向他们道歉，说：“我非常抱歉以这种方式夺走了你们珍贵的家人。”

至关重要的是，父亲表示，田口承认他知道无辜的旁观者可能会受到伤害。

“当被问及是否考虑过撞到行人时，他说他考虑过，”父亲告诉记者。“这正是我想要亲自与他见面确认的事情。他必须活着，并为他的罪行赎罪。”

警方尚未透露田口是否正式承认刑事指控，但他们仍在将此事件作为自杀未遂事件进行调查。
