A Queenstown resident was left gagging after checking on reports from her neighbour of faeces in the lift — only to find it smeared in a corner and the entire cabin reeking.
A TikTok video uploaded on Wednesday (Sept 2) by Queena Ong shows her and one of her younger sisters walking towards the lift at her HDB block.
"Somebody sh*t in the lift," she captioned in the video. "No hate, I was just genuinely curious (to see) what it looked like. We all sh*t our pants."
The 26-year-old content creator told AsiaOne that the incident occurred at Block 160 Mei Ling Street at around 11.30pm on Aug 31.
She recalled that she was on the first floor, about to take the lift upstairs, when her neighbour stopped her and told her not to use it because there was "something in the lift".
She initially thought he was referring to the seventh lunar month, more commonly known as the Hungry Ghost Month, which scared her.
"After further probing, when he said someone shat in the lift, I cracked up laughing," recalled Ong.
She then took the stairs home and shared the news with her family, but only one of her younger sisters was interested in checking it out.
"At the start, I held my breath so I couldn’t smell anything but visually I was slightly amused," said Ong.
After the video ended, she said she couldn't hold her breath anymore and took a big breath, describing the smell as "imagine your own lao sai (Hokkien for diarrhoea)".
'I haven't taken the lift for three days'
Ong said that she did not report the incident but by the next morning, the lift had been cleaned.
Another video shared with AsiaOne shows Ong the following day checking out the lift and found that it had been cleaned.
However, she admitted that she has still not used it as she was uncomfortable with the idea of residual bacteria left on the floor, handles or lift buttons.
"So far, I haven't taken the lift for three days," said Ong. "It's just the thought of it ... it's like eating insects, it's not that bad but it still messes with your mind."
She added that she has never experienced any similar incidents before.
"This is a first. But no hate, someone must have been very desperate and couldn’t hold it in anymore.
"I’m sure we all have experienced times in our life where we cannot control something."

她回忆说，当时她在一楼，正要乘电梯上楼，这时邻居拦住她，告诉她不要使用电梯，因为“电梯里有东西”。
她一开始以为他指的是农历七月，也就是俗称的“鬼月”，这让她感到害怕。
“经过进一步追问，当他说有人在电梯里拉屎时，我忍不住大笑起来，”翁回忆道。
然后她走楼梯回家，把这个消息告诉了家人，但只有她的一个妹妹有兴趣去看看。
“一开始，我屏住呼吸，所以什么也闻不到，但从视觉上看，我还是觉得有点好笑，”翁说。
视频结束后，她说她再也憋不住了，深深地吸了一口气，并将这种气味描述为“想象一下你自己拉肚子（闽南语为腹泻）”。
“我已经三天没坐电梯了。”
Ong表示她没有报告这起事件，但到了第二天早上，电梯就被清理干净了。
AsiaOne 分享的另一段视频显示，第二天 Ong 检查了电梯，发现电梯已被清洁干净。
然而，她承认自己仍然没有使用过，因为她对地板、把手或电梯按钮上残留细菌的想法感到不安。
“到目前为止，我已经三天没坐电梯了，”翁说。“光是想到它就……就像吃虫子一样，虽然没那么糟糕，但还是会让人心神不宁。”
她补充说，她以前从未经历过类似事件。
“这还是头一次。不过我不恨任何人，一定是有人走投无路，再也忍不住了。”
“我相信我们每个人的人生中都会经历一些我们无法掌控的事情。”
