A Mercedes driver who was allegedly intoxicated struck two pedestrians walking along Raffles Avenue in the Marina Bay area on Wednesday (Sept 16) night.
The accident occurred near Esplanade Mall at about 10pm, reported Shin Min Daily News.
An eyewitness, surnamed Zhao, said a woman was knocked onto the ground and could not get back on her feet. Another man said he was suffering from chest pain and dizziness.
The injured are tourists from China, according to the report.
The car had also crashed into a bollard set up for the upcoming Formula One night race taking place at the Marina Bay Street Circuit from Oct 8 to 10.
The police told AsiaOne that the 40-year-old woman and 41-year-old man were conscious when taken to the hospital.
When a Shin Min reporter reached the scene shortly after the accident, the male Mercedes driver, who was in a white button-up shirt, was being interviewed by police officers.
Zhao, the eyewitness, claimed the driver exited his car after the accident but did not check on the hurt pedestrians. Instead, he ran to a nearby grassy area.
A group of people who were with the injured pedestrians confronted the driver.
Zhao recounted to Shin Min: "They told me that the male driver still smelled of alcohol and was playing it cool. When the police arrived, he tried to shake hands with them, but they ignored him."
The injured male pedestrian, surnamed Zhou, said he is a colleague of the injured female pedestrian.
"My female colleague's injuries are more serious. The doctor said she fractured her spine and requires surgery," he added.
The police said the driver, 42, was arrested for drink driving and is assisting with ongoing investigations.

这辆车还撞上了为即将于 10 月 8 日至 10 日在滨海湾街道赛道举行的 F1 夜间比赛而设置的路障。
警方告诉亚洲新闻网，这名40岁的女子和41岁的男子被送往医院时意识清醒。

目击者赵先生称，事故发生后，司机下了车，但没有查看受伤行人的情况，而是跑到了附近的草地上。

赵向《新明日报》回忆道：“他们告诉我，那名男司机身上还有酒气，而且装得很镇定。警察到场后，他试图和他们握手，但警察没有理会他。”
受伤的男性行人周先生表示，他是受伤女性行人的同事。
“我那位女同事的伤势更严重。医生说她脊椎骨折，需要手术，”他补充道。
警方称，这名42岁的司机因酒后驾车被捕，目前正在协助进行调查。
