Second body recovered as search continues for missing Pulau Ketam anglers

Another body of a missing angler from the Pulau Ketam tragedy was discovered off Hutan Melintang, Perak, by a local fishing boat this afternoon.

The body, wearing a life jacket, will be brought ashore for identification, and the search continues for the remaining missing anglers.

The family of missing angler Muhammad Ridzuan remains hopeful, as two other relatives have been found stable but traumatised.

KLANG, Sept 17 — Another body, believed to be one of the anglers missing off One Fathom Bank near Pulau Ketam on Sunday, was found floating off Hutan Melintang, Perak, late this afternoon.

Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) operations officer, Maritime Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali said a local fishing boat spotted a man’s body floating at 4.26 pm.

“The discovery was immediately relayed to Perak MMEA for further action.

“The MMEA vessel KM Nusa, conducting search operations in the area, proceeded to the location about three nautical miles from the Selangor–Perak maritime boundary,” he told reporters at the Search and Rescue (SAR) Forward Operating Base at the Sementa Jetty here today.

Mohd Syafiq added that the latest recovery was about two nautical miles from where the first victim, Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman, was found yesterday.

“The body, wearing a life jacket, will be brought ashore at the Hutan Melintang Jetty. Police will handle formal identification with family members or next of kin,” he said.

Meanwhile, the family of missing angler Muhammad Ridzuan Ruhaizat, 37, remains hopeful he will be found safe.

The victim’s uncle, Khairul Muhidin, 47, said he last met his nephew, a contractor with a utility company, at his Jalan Kebun residence on September 4, where they mostly chatted about work.

“On the night of the incident (Sunday), I was shocked when family members informed me. I immediately dialled the 999 emergency line,” he told reporters at the Sementa Jetty.

Khairul said the family is hopeful Muhammad Ridzuan is safe. He described his nephew, the fourth of six siblings and an avid angler, as resilient, noting he was wearing a life jacket during the incident.

“He might have held onto something or a container to stay afloat. Our main concern is dehydration at sea,” he said.

Khairul said two other relatives who survived the incident, namely Mohd Rizal Mohamad Sadali and Muhd Hamiszar Punirain, both 45, are reported to be in stable condition.

“Mohd Rizal was transferred to a private hospital in Shah Alam, while Muhd Hamiszar, who suffered neck injuries, is being treated at Hospital Banting. Both are stable but remain traumatised by the ordeal,” he said.

Earlier, Selangor Menteri Besar’s Political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad, visited the victim’s family and received a briefing on the latest developments of the incident.

Besides Mohd Rizal and Muhd Hamiszar, the other survivors were Mohd Shairazi Abdul Aziz, 43, and boat skipper Zulfikalnain Awang, 47. The four were rescued on the second day of the SAR.

莫哈末·沙菲克补充说，最新发现的尸体距离昨天发现第一名受害者莫哈末·沙里尔·阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼的地点大约两海里。

他说：“遗体将穿着救生衣运到胡丹美林塘码头。警方将与家属或近亲进行正式的身份确认。”

与此同时，失踪垂钓者穆罕默德·里祖安·鲁海扎特（37岁）的家人仍然抱有希望，认为他能够平安获救。

受害者的叔叔，47岁的凯鲁·穆希丁说，他最后一次见到他的侄子（一家公用事业公司的承包商）是在9月4日，地点是他在Jalan Kebun的住所，他们当时主要在谈论工作。

“事发当晚（周日），家人告诉我这件事时，我感到非常震惊。我立即拨打了999紧急电话，”他在塞门塔码头告诉记者。

凯鲁尔表示，家人都希望穆罕默德·里兹万平安无事。他形容自己的侄子穆罕默德·里兹万（家中六个兄弟姐妹中排行第四，也是一位垂钓爱好者）意志坚强，并指出事发时他穿着救生衣。

“他可能抓住了什么东西或容器才得以漂浮。我们最担心的是他在海上脱水，”他说。

凯鲁尔表示，另有两名在事故中幸存的亲属，分别是45岁的莫哈末·里扎尔·莫哈末·萨达利和莫哈末·哈米萨尔·普尼兰，据报道目前情况稳定。

“莫哈末·里扎尔已被转送至莎阿南的一家私立医院，而颈部受伤的莫哈末·哈米萨尔则在万津医院接受治疗。两人目前情况稳定，但仍因这次经历而受到惊吓。”他说。

早些时候，雪兰莪州务大臣政治秘书赛夫丁·沙菲·穆罕默德探望了受害者家属，并听取了有关事件最新进展的简报。
