PAS does not need a manifesto pledge on gambling bans as opposition to gambling aligns with its core Islamic principles, stated Kedah MB Sanusi.

Sanusi highlighted Clause 5 of the PAS Constitution, which seeks to uphold laws against gambling and regulate alcohol.

Responding to a challenge, he maintained that a manifesto should not restate principles already in their constitution.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — PAS does not need to include its opposition to gambling in its election manifesto because the stance is already part of the party’s core principles, said Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Sanusi, who is also PAS central election director, said the public could refer to Clause 5 of the PAS Constitution, which clearly states that the party seeks to uphold Islamic values and laws in governance, including Syariah laws prohibiting gambling premises and regulating the sale of alcohol, Berita Harian reported.

He said people should rely on effort, prayer and trust in God to achieve success in life rather than turn to gambling.

“I hope the people in this state and society as a whole will stay away from gambling and not make luck a means of getting through life,” he said.

“PAS’ position on the prohibition of gambling is clear and based on Islamic principles, and does not depend on whether the matter is included in an election manifesto or not,” he added.

He was speaking to reporters after the Anak Muda Podcast held in conjunction with the 72nd PAS Muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan in Pengkalan Chepa here last night.

Sanusi was responding to a video by Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin challenging PAS to include gambling and alcohol in its election manifesto.

The video was circulated by a portal’s Facebook account.

Sanusi said there was no need to include such matters in a manifesto as the document was essentially a political party’s offer to voters, rather than a restatement of policies or principles already enshrined in its constitution.

“People say a manifesto is not a holy book. Read the PAS Constitution. What is PAS fighting for? But if people do not want PAS, they will still refuse to accept it, right? They will find all sorts of reasons.

“Islam prohibits gambling! Do we really have to put that in the manifesto too? Why not include the declaration of faith as well?” he said.

On the gambling premises issue, Sanusi said the state government was still awaiting further developments, including possible legal proceedings should gambling operators seek compensation through the courts.

“We will wait for the next steps. They also want to take the matter to court to seek compensation. We will fight it,” he said.

吉隆坡，9月4日讯——吉打州务大臣拿督斯里穆罕默德·萨努西·莫哈末·诺表示，伊斯兰党无需在其竞选宣言中列入反对赌博的立场，因为这一立场已经是该党核心原则的一部分。

据《每日新闻》报道，同时也是伊斯兰党中央选举主任的萨努西表示，公众可以参考伊斯兰党章程第5条，该条款明确规定，该党致力于在治理中维护伊斯兰价值观和法律，包括禁止赌博场所和规范酒精销售的伊斯兰教法。

他说，人们应该依靠努力、祈祷和对上帝的信任来获得人生的成功，而不是求助于赌博。

“我希望本州人民以及整个社会都能远离赌博，不要把运气当作谋生的手段，”他说。

他补充说：“伊斯兰党在禁止赌博问题上的立场是明确的，是基于伊斯兰教义的，并不取决于该问题是否被写入竞选宣言。”

他昨晚在Pengkalan Chepa的Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan与第72届伊党穆克塔玛联合举办的Anak Muda播客后向记者发表讲话。

“人们常说宣言不是圣经。看看伊斯兰党章吧。伊斯兰党到底在争取什么？但如果人们不想要伊斯兰党，他们还是会拒绝接受，对吧？他们会找到各种各样的理由。”

“伊斯兰教禁止赌博！我们真的也要把这一点写进宣言里吗？为什么不把信仰宣言也写进去呢？”他说道。

关于赌博场所问题，萨努西表示，州政府仍在等待进一步的发展，包括如果赌博运营商通过法院寻求赔偿，可能会采取的法律程序。

“我们会等待下一步行动。他们还想把这件事诉诸法庭，寻求赔偿。我们会抗争到底。”他说。
