Handful of supporters wait outside Najib’s Langgak Duta residence after conditional pardon

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional royal pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, provided he pays a RM50 million fine.

The decision, approved by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, was finalized by the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories.

Najib's original 12-year sentence for the SRC International corruption case was previously reduced to six years, with his fine lowered from RM210 million.

The announcement prompted a small gathering of supporters and a media presence outside Najib's residence.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Around 10 supporters gathered outside former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s private residence in Jalan Langgak Duta this afternoon, following news that he had been granted a conditional royal pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his custodial sentence under house arrest.

The group arrived clad mostly in red, with one supporter wearing a red T-shirt featuring Najib’s portrait making a shushing gesture.

The gathering coincided with a heavy media stakeout along the quiet residential street, with reporters and camera crews waiting outside the gates for Najib’s potential arrival from Kajang Prison.

Earlier today, the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department announced that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon, permitting him to serve out the rest of his term under home arrest until August 23, 2028, conditional upon the full settlement of an RM50 million fine.

The decision was finalised during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara this morning.

Najib was convicted in 2020 in the SRC International corruption case, a key trial linked to the wider 1MDB financial scandal. He began serving his initial 12-year jail sentence at Kajang Prison in August 2022 after the Federal Court dismissed his final appeal.

His sentence was subsequently halved to six years and his original RM210 million fine reduced to RM50 million following an earlier review by the Federal Territories Pardons Board in early 2024.

今天上午，在国家皇宫举行的吉隆坡、纳闽和布城联邦直辖区赦免委员会第64次会议上，最终确定了这项决定。

纳吉布于2020年在SRC国际公司贪污案中被判有罪，该案是与更广泛的1MDB金融丑闻相关的关键案件。在联邦法院驳回其最终上诉后，他于2022年8月开始在加影监狱服刑，刑期为12年。

2024年初，联邦直辖区赦免委员会进行了一次复核，之后他的刑期减半至六年，原先的2.1亿令吉罚款也减至5000万令吉。
