Hyundai to launch all-new Tucson SUV next month

SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. said Sunday it will launch the all-new Tucson sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the domestic market next month as it expands its hybrid lineup.

The fifth-generation Tucson, a fully redesigned model launched six years after the previous generation, will be available in two versions -- one with a turbo 1.6-liter gasoline engine and the other with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline-hybrid powertrain, the company said in a press release.

The gasoline turbo model comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid model has a fuel economy of 17.4 kilometers per liter, it said.

The new Tucson is equipped with advanced safety features, including a redundant power supply system for door unlocking that uses backup power to maintain the door-unlocking function even if the main power supply is cut off in a collision.

Hyundai Motor said it is the first time the technology has been applied to one of its vehicles.

The compact SUV also comes with Hyundai Motor's next-generation infotainment system, Pleos Connect, for the first time in a Hyundai SUV. The system provides access to Gleo AI, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) agent.
