Two dead in Jasin motorcycle crash after overtaking manoeuvre fails

Two motorcyclists, a 21-year-old college student and a 41-year-old lorry driver, were killed in a head-on collision on Jalan Gapam near Bemban.

The accident, which occurred around 11:30 pm, involved the lorry driver entering the opposite lane while overtaking, leading to the fatal crash.

Both victims suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by Jasin district police, and no CCTV or dashcam footage is available.

JASIN, Sept 4 — Two motorcyclists were killed in an accident on Jalan Gapam near a petrol station in Bemban here last night.

Jasin district police chief Supt Lee Robert said both victims, a 21-year-old college student and a 41-year-old lorry driver, died on the spot in the incident, which occurred at about 11.30 pm.

He said initial investigations found that the student was travelling from Bemban towards Ayer Keroh, while the lorry driver was heading in the opposite direction, towards Bemban from Ayer Keroh.

“The 41-year-old motorcyclist was believed to have entered the opposite lane while overtaking a vehicle before colliding with the motorcycle ridden by the 21-year-old victim, who was travelling straight in his lane.

“Both victims sustained serious head and body injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

Lee said police were unable to obtain any CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident.

He said both motorcycles sustained front-end damage and were sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) in Alor Gajah for inspection.

“The post-mortem will be conducted today at the Jasin Hospital Forensic Unit after the body identification process is completed,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama

贾辛区警区主任李罗伯特警监表示，两名受害者，一名21岁的大学生和一名41岁的货车司机，在晚上11点30分左右发生的这起事故中当场死亡。

他说，初步调查发现，这名学生当时正从本班前往亚依克罗，而货车司机则从亚依克罗朝本班方向行驶，方向相反。

“据信，这名 41 岁的摩托车驾驶员在超车时驶入对向车道，随后与 21 岁的受害者驾驶的摩托车相撞，而受害者当时正沿自己的车道直行。

“两名受害者头部和身体均受重伤，当场死亡，”他今天在一份声明中说。

李表示，警方未能获得事发时的任何监控录像或行车记录仪录像。

他说，两辆摩托车的前端均受到损坏，已被送往亚罗牙也的电脑车辆检验中心（Puspakom）进行检验。

他说：“尸体身份识别工作完成后，将于今日在亚新医院法医科进行尸检。”他还补充说，此案正依据1987年《道路交通法》第41(1)条进行调查。——马新社
