Kedah PKR says Umno dissolution push serves political interests, not urgent need for stability

Kedah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has dismissed calls by Kedah Umno Strategic Communications director for the dissolution of Parliament, citing no urgent need for it.

Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, the State Leadership Council Communications director, argued that such a move would only serve Umno's political interests rather than address critical national concerns.

He emphasized that the Madani government remains stable, and political manoeuvres could disrupt its focus on pressing economic and societal issues.

Nashrul also highlighted that the call contradicts Umno's commitment to the Unity Government, urging for collective responsibility and prioritizing the public's welfare over politics.

ALOR SETAR, Sept 21 — Kedah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) maintains that there is no urgent need to dissolve Parliament, as called for by Kedah Umno Strategic Communications director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashri.

State Leadership Council (MPN) Communications director Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the call clearly did not stem from any pressing need, but rather served Umno’s political interests.

“The Madani government is functioning well and remains stable, while Umno itself is part of the government and has representatives in the Cabinet.

“If Umno is also part of the government administration, it must understand the principle of collective responsibility for decisions and the conduct of the administration,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the call also contradicted the position of Umno president, who had only recently reaffirmed that Umno would remain with the Unity Government until the end of its term.

The 15th General Election (GE15) Unity Government agreement also clearly establishes cooperation for the five-year term of the 15th Parliament, he said.

“Therefore, Kedah Umno needs to explain whether it still respects the position of its president and the party’s own commitment, or whether it wants the country’s stability to be sacrificed merely for political manoeuvring,” he said.

Tunku Nashrul said Umno should understand that being in government was not merely about enjoying position and power, as it also came with responsibility towards the people and the country.

“At a time when the people expect the government to focus on the economy, cost of living, and their well-being, this is not the time for political manoeuvring or creating unnecessary uncertainty.”

“Kedah PKR maintains that there is no urgent need to dissolve Parliament. The mandate entrusted to us should be used to work and resolve the people’s problems until the end of the term, rather than bowing to the political interests of any party,” he said.

东姑纳什鲁表示，巫统应该明白，执政不仅仅是享受地位和权力，还意味着要对人民和国家承担责任。

“在民众期望政府关注经济、生活成本和民众福祉的当下，这不是进行政治操纵或制造不必要的不​​确定性的时候。”

“吉打州公正党坚持认为，没有必要立即解散国会。我们应该利用人民赋予我们的使命，在任期结束前为人民服务，解决人民的问题，而不是屈从于任何政党的政治利益，”他说。
