2 workers die after falling into sea at Tuas Port

Two workers have died following an incident at Tuas Port on Tuesday (Sept 22) morning.

Based on messages seen by AsiaOne, the incident happened at about 8.40am.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, PSA Singapore confirmed that two workers fell into the sea in the course of stevedoring work.

This refers to the process of loading, unloading, stacking, and securing cargo on ships at port terminals.

A PSA spokesperson said that one worker was subsequently found and pronounced dead.

The spokesperson added that the second worker was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

"PSA is working closely with the relevant authorities, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. We are providing support to the families of the workers during this difficult time," the port operator said.

AsiaOne has reached out to the Ministry of Manpower to check if a notification has been filed with the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health, and for the findings from preliminary investigations, if any.

Separately, AsiaOne has asked the police if a report was lodged.

Under Singapore's Coroners Act, cases of unnatural deaths such as accidents, workplace incidents, and falls are investigated.

AsiaOne已联系人力部，询问是否已向工作场所安全与健康专员提交通知，以及初步调查结果（如有）。

另外，AsiaOne已向警方询问是否已立案。

根据新加坡的《验尸官法》，非自然死亡案件，例如事故、工伤事故和跌倒造成的死亡，都会受到调查。
