From politics to property: Ex-Workers' Party MP Faisal Manap starts new career with ERA

Former Workers’ Party (WP) Member of Parliament (MP) Faisal Manap has started a new career in real estate, joining ERA Real Estate Singapore as a property agent.

The 51-year-old father of three was introduced as one of ERA’s latest associates in a Facebook (FB) post on Monday (Sept 21).

"Having been on the ground serving his constituents, and with those valuable experiences will bring much assurance that he'll serve with nothing less than sheer honesty," Mohd Nizam Nawawi, Senior Division Director at ERA, wrote in the FB post caption.

The post featured Faisal alongside three other men in front of an ERA sign welcoming him as the real estate company's latest associate.

Checks by AsiaOne showed that he was registered as a real estate agent on Sept 16, this year. ERA’s website also lists Faisal as an associate.

Faisal is currently receiving mentorship and gaining experience through on-the-job training, according to Berita Harian (BH).

The new role also gives him greater flexibility with his working hours, the report said.

Explaining his move into real estate, Faisal told Berita Harian: "I have worked in the service sector for nearly 20 years, including as a counsellor and as an MP (Member of Parliament) for 14 years. As such, serving the community has become an integral part of who I am. Therefore, at this juncture, I want to try my hand at the real estate industry."

Faisal previously served as an MP with Aljunied GRC from 2011 to 2025.

During the 2025 General Election, he led a five-member WP team in contesting Tampines GRC. The People's Action Party won the ward with 52.02 per cent of the vote, defeating the WP team, which garnered 47.37 per cent.

Before entering politics, Faisal worked in the social service sector as a counsellor from 2006 to 2010.

He holds a Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Monash University in Australia.

Speaking about his new career, Faisal told BH: "This marks a new phase in my life. Just as I did when I was an MP, I always believe in myself and do the best I can within my capabilities. I take a step-by-step approach. In any endeavour, we naturally aim for the best possible outcome."

However, Faisal remains as WP’s vice-chairperson ; a position he retained after the party announced its new Central Executive Committee (CEC) line-up for the 2026 to 2028 term in July.

帖子中，费萨尔与另外三名男子站在 ERA 的标志牌前，欢迎他成为这家房地产公司的最新合伙人。

AsiaOne的调查显示，他于今年9月16日注册成为房地产经纪人。ERA的网站也显示Faisal是其合伙人。

据《每日新闻报》(Berita Harian) 报道，费萨尔目前正在接受指导，并通过在职培训积累经验。

报告称，新职位也让他的工作时间更加灵活。

费萨尔在接受《每日新闻》采访时解释了他进军房地产行业的原因：“我从事服务行业近20年，包括担任咨询师和国会议员14年。因此，服务社区已成为我生命中不可或缺的一部分。所以，在这个阶段，我想尝试一下房地产行业。”

费萨尔此前曾于 2011 年至 2025 年担任阿裕尼集选区国会议员。

在2025年大选中，他带领一支由五名成员组成的工人党团队竞选淡滨尼集选区。人民行动党以52.02%的得票率赢得该选区，击败了获得47.37%选票的工人党团队。

在从政之前，费萨尔于 2006 年至 2010 年在社会服务部门担任咨询师。

他持有新加坡理工学院土木与结构工程文凭和澳大利亚莫纳什大学心理学理学士学位。

谈及他的新事业，费萨尔告诉BH：“这标志着我人生进入了一个新阶段。就像我担任议员时一样，我始终相信自己，并尽我所能做到最好。我采取循序渐进的方式。在任何事业中，我们自然都力求取得最佳结果。”

然而，费萨尔仍然是工人党的副主席；在工人党于7月宣布其2026年至2028年任期的新中央执行委员会（CEC）阵容后，他保留了这一职位。
