2 workers die after falling into sea at Tuas Port

PSA confirmed that two workers have died after they fell into the sea while performing stevedoring work.

SINGAPORE – Two workers have died after they fell into the sea while moving cargo at Tuas Port in the morning of Sept 22.

In a media reply on Sept 23 , a spokesperson for PSA Singapore, which operates the port, said the incident happened at about 8.40am, when they were performing stevedoring work.

This refers to the process of loading, unloading, stacking, and securing cargo on ships at port terminals.

The spokesperson added that one worker was subsequently found and pronounced dead. The other worker was taken to the hospital, where he subsequently died .

“PSA is working closely with the relevant authorities, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. We are providing support to the families of the workers during this difficult time,” said the spokesperson.

The Straits Times has contacted the Ministry of Manpower for more information.

This incident follows several workplace deaths here.

On Sept 11, a 35-year-old worker died after he was struck by a hose connected to a compressed air pump at a construction site in Jurong Port Road.

Also, a 23-year-old worker died on Aug 23 after scaffolding collapsed onto a lorry he was in at a construction site, also in Jurong Port Road.

There were 21 workplace deaths i n the first half of 2026, partly due to a rise in platform workers who lost their lives on the road, as compared with 18 fatalities in the same period in 2025.

Vehicular incidents claimed nine lives and were the leading cause of the 21 recorded fatalities.

Other top causes included drowning or suffocation, which caused five deaths, including those of three crew members in a supply boat collision with a landing craft off Pasir Panjang Terminal in June.

The transportation and storage industry had the highest number of deaths, with five fatalities.

9月11日，一名35岁的工人在裕廊港路的一个建筑工地被连接到压缩空气泵的软管击中身亡。

此外，8 月 23 日，一名 23 岁的工人在裕廊港路的一个建筑工地，因脚手架倒塌砸中他乘坐的卡车而丧生。

2026 年上半年共有 21 起工作场所死亡事故，部分原因是平台工人因道路交通事故丧生的人数增加，而 2025 年同期则有 18 人死亡。

车辆事故造成 9 人死亡，是 21 起有记录死亡事件的主要原因。

其他主要死因包括溺水或窒息，造成五人死亡，其中包括 6 月份在巴西班让码头附近一艘补给船与登陆艇相撞事故中丧生的三名船员。

运输和仓储行业的死亡人数最多，共有五人死亡。
