Perhilitan sets tiger trap in Sungai Siput village after fatal attack on Orang Asli man

Personnel from the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) collaborated with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) to install a tiger trap in Kampung Takung, Pos Perwor, after a fatal tiger attack on an Orang Asli resident.

Local authorities have advised the public to avoid areas identified as tiger habitats and report any tiger sightings to ensure safety.

The victim, Zamberi Angah, was killed while foraging for rattan in the Korbu Forest Reserve, where evidence of the tiger was discovered.

Residents are urged to comply with instructions to prevent further incidents.

IPOH, Sept 23 — Personnel from the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) assisted the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) in setting up a tiger trap in Kampung Takung, Pos Perwor, following a tiger attack that claimed the life of an Orang Asli resident last Monday.

According to a Facebook post by Rela Sungai Siput (North) district office, several members were deployed to assist Perhilitan, help ensure the safety of local residents and address the threat posed by the animal.

“Residents and members of the public are advised not to approach or enter areas identified as tiger habitats. They should also refrain from taking independent action and comply with all instructions issued by the authorities.

“Anyone with information regarding the presence of a tiger should immediately notify the authorities so that further action can be taken,” the post stated.

The media reported yesterday that an Orang Asli man, Zamberi Angah, 42, died after a suspected tiger attack while foraging for rattan in the Korbu Forest Reserve near Kampung Takung, Pos Perwor, Sungai Siput.

The victim was found in a bamboo thicket near a logging road, approximately 200 metres from the suspected attack site. Tiger footprints and other evidence were also discovered at the scene. — Bernama
