Singaporean fencer Maxine Wong won her first individual medal at the Asian Games on Wednesday (Sept 23), becoming the third Singaporean fencer to claim an individual podium finish at the competition.
The 25-year-old secured a bronze medal after reaching the semi-finals at Aichi Sky Expo, where she lost 15-6 to Japan's Yuka Ueno.
Ueno will face South Korea's Park Ji-hee in the final after Park defeated Uzbekistan's Polina Volobueva 15-12 in the other semi-final.
Wong had earlier booked her place in the last four with a 15-6 victory over Hong Kong's Daphne Chan in the quarter-finals.
She began her campaign by advancing from the pools with three wins in five bouts.
Wong then defeated the Philippines' Jana Allysah Catantan 15-2 in the table of 32 before edging China's reigning champion Huang Qianqian 12-10 in the table of 16.
The bronze marks Wong's second Asian Games medal. She made her Asian Games debut in Jakarta in 2018, where she won bronze in the women's team foil event and finished fifth in the individual competition.
Wong has also represented Singapore at the SEA Games in 2019, 2021 and 2023 and 2025, winning two golds and two silvers.
Wong's bronze adds to Singapore's medal haul on the fourth day of competition, with other Singaporean athletes also winning medals in several sports.
Among them are a gold from mixed martial arts fighter Tiffany Teo, silvers for swimmer Gan Ching Hwee and fencer Kiria Tikanah, and a bronze for wushu exponent Zeanne Law.

黄在四分之一决赛中以 15-6 战胜香港选手陈达芙，晋级四强。
她在小组赛中五战三胜，成功晋级，开启了她的征程。
随后，黄在32强赛中以15-2击败菲律宾选手贾娜·艾丽莎·卡坦坦，又在16强赛中以12-10险胜中国卫冕冠军黄倩倩。
这枚铜牌是黄女士获得的第二枚亚运会奖牌。她于2018年在雅加达首次亮相亚运会，并在女子团体花剑项目中获得铜牌，在个人项目中获得第五名。
黄先生还代表新加坡参加了 2019 年、2021 年、2023 年和 2025 年的东南亚运动会，获得两枚金牌和两枚银牌。
黄的铜牌为新加坡在第四天的比赛中增添了奖牌，其他新加坡运动员也在多个体育项目中获得了奖牌。
