EV, plug-in hybrid owners to vote on 3 shortlisted licence plate designs from Sept 25

An online poll for owners of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to indicate their preference for a differentiated EV licence plate design from three shortlisted designs will commence on Friday (Sept 24) — for two weeks.

In a joint news release on Thursday (Sept 24), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the online poll will feature one of the original green designs proposed and two new blue designs.

Earlier in March, three similar designs were proposed. They feature characters in black font, with the plates in different shades of green — dark, gradient or light.

In addition, a green round decal with white border was proposed for selected vehicle schemes and groups.

LTA and SCDF said that most respondents from their consultations with stakeholders such as authorised motor dealers and sign-craft workshops understood the operational need for differentiated licence plates. This included views received from individual motorists.

However, there were also concerns raised about the aesthetics of the proposed green designs, the agencies acknowledged.

Following which, LTA and SCDF said they continued to explore a range of other designs, but also explained the constraints they had to work within.

Some of the designs, they said, were assessed to be unsuitable as the visibility of the vehicle number was not optimal.

For example, a coloured side band would require the vehicle number to be displayed in a smaller font and would not be suitable for double-row licence plates.

But the agencies have now come up with two new options suitable for Singapore's road conditions.

The new designs feature two different shades of blue which are visible in both daylight and low-light conditions.

"They are also easily recognisable by members of public, first responders and compatible with traffic and enforcement cameras," LTA and SCDF said.

The poll will be available on the OneMotoring website from Sept 25 to Oct 9.

EV and PHEV owners can look out for a banner on the OneMotoring website, which contains a link to a FormSG poll where they can log in with their SingPass to submit their preferred design.

LTA and SCDF said that as the differentiated licence plates will directly affect EV and PHEV owners, only votes from registered EV and PHEV owners will be considered in the final tally.

Each registered owner, whether an individual or a company, may only submit one vote — regardless of the number of EVs and/or PHEVs they own.

However, those who own EVs and PHEVs in both capacities will get to submit one vote as an individual, and another as a company.

Those who submit multiple votes will only have their last vote received considered.

"We encourage all registered EV and PHEV owners to submit their preferred design during the polling period. Owners’ preferences will be taken into consideration as part of the final design selection process," LTA and SCDF said.

随后，陆路交通管理局和新加坡民防部队表示，他们继续探索了一系列其他设计方案，但也解释了他们必须在哪些限制条件下开展工作。

他们表示，部分设计方案经评估被认为不合适，因为车辆号码的可见性不够理想。

例如，彩色侧边条需要用较小的字体显示车牌号码，并且不适合双排车牌。

但现在，相关机构提出了两个适合新加坡道路状况的新方案。

新设计采用了两种不同的蓝色色调，在日光和弱光条件下均清晰可见。

“它们也很容易被公众和急救人员识别，并且与交通和执法摄像头兼容，”陆路交通管理局和新加坡民防部队表示。

本次民意调查将于9月25日至10月9日在OneMotoring网站上进行。

电动汽车和插电式混合动力汽车车主可以留意 OneMotoring 网站上的横幅广告，其中包含指向 FormSG 投票的链接，他们可以使用 SingPass 登录并提交自己喜欢的设计。

陆路交通管理局和新加坡民防部队表示，由于差异化车牌将直接影响电动汽车和插电式混合动力汽车车主，因此最终计票结果只会考虑已注册的电动汽车和插电式混合动力汽车车主的投票。

每位注册车主，无论是个人还是公司，无论拥有多少辆电动汽车和/或插电式混合动力汽车，都只能提交一票。

然而，同时拥有电动汽车和插电式混合动力汽车的人可以分别以个人身份和公司身份提交一票。

提交多张选票的人，只有最后一次投票才会被计入。

“我们鼓励所有已注册的电动汽车和插电式混合动力汽车车主在投票期间提交他们喜欢的设计方案。车主的偏好将在最终设计方案选择过程中予以考虑，”陆路交通管理局和新加坡民防部队表示。
