PM’s brother Idrus Ibrahim buried in Bukit Mertajam after Friday prayers

Idrus Ibrahim, the elder brother of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was laid to rest at Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Muslim Cemetery in Bukit Mertajam.

The funeral was attended by numerous family members, friends, and political leaders from various parties.

Funeral prayers were led by Penang Mufti Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman, and the burial took place at 2.10 pm.

Idrus, who passed away at the age of 83, is survived by his wife, four children, and ten grandchildren.

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Sept 25 — The remains of Idrus Ibrahim, the elder brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, were laid to rest at the Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Muslim Cemetery here today.

The funeral was attended by hundreds of family members, relatives, friends and political leaders from various parties.

Earlier, the remains were taken from the family home at 12.20 pm in a van to the temporary prayer hall at Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Jamek Mosque on Jalan Kolam.

The prime minister, accompanied by family members and members of the public, walked about 200 metres from the late Idrus’ home to the prayer hall.

The funeral prayers, held after Friday prayers, were led by Penang Mufti Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman. The remains were then taken to the cemetery and buried at 2.10 pm.

Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah paid their respects to the late Idrus at the family home at 11.15 am.

Also present to pay their last respects were Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid; Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister and Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim; and political leaders from various parties.

Idrus died in his sleep at his residence at 6.10 pm yesterday. He was 83.

总理在家人和民众的陪同下，从已故伊德鲁斯的家步行约 200 米到达祈祷大厅。

葬礼祈祷仪式在周五祈祷后举行，由槟城宗教司副教授拿督莫哈末·苏基·奥斯曼博士主持。随后，遗体被送往墓地，于下午2点10分下葬。

上午 11 点 15 分，槟城国家元首敦南里雅达利 (Tun Ramli Ngah Talib) 和他的妻子托潘拉惹诺拉 (Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah) 在家中向已故伊德鲁斯致敬。

前来致以最后敬意的还有槟城第一副首席部长拿督莫哈末阿都哈密博士；企业家及合作社发展部长兼武吉默塔占国会议员沈志强；以及各政党的政治领袖。

伊德鲁斯昨天下午6点10分在家中睡梦中去世，享年83岁。
