Singapore runner charged with alleged theft of running shoes, training cones from Decathlon

A 26-year-old Singaporean man has been charged with two counts of theft after he allegedly stole sporting goods from retailer Decathlon on separate occasions.

According to court documents seen by AsiaOne, Ko Wen Qiang, Keane was charged over the alleged theft of a pair of KD900X running shoes valued at $139.90 at about 7.30am on July 27, 2025, from Decathlon's outlet in Kallang.

In a separate incident, Ko is accused of allegedly stealing a set of training cones valued at $25 at about 4.55pm on Sep 7, 2025, from the same outlet.

According to Singapore Athletics' Facebook page, Ko represented Singapore at the 2023 World Athletics Road Running Championships in the men's half marathon, where he finished second with a time of 1hr 21min.

He also finished second at the 2024 Standard Chartered Singapore Half Marathon National Championships and is known to have taken part in other marathons and races overseas, including events in countries such as Australia, Italy and Slovenia.

Ko was charged on July 1 and will next return to court on Oct 2, reported CNA.

If convicted of theft in dwelling, he faces up to seven years' imprisonment and a fine.

一名26岁的新加坡男子被控两项盗窃罪，据称他曾两次从零售商迪卡侬盗窃体育用品。

据 AsiaOne 看到的法庭文件显示，Ko Wen Qiang（Keane）被控于 2025 年 7 月 27 日上午 7 点 30 分左右在加冷迪卡侬门店盗窃一双价值 139.90 美元的 KD900X 跑鞋。

在另一起事件中，Ko 被指控于 2025 年 9 月 7 日下午 4 点 55 分左右从同一家商店偷走了一套价值 25 美元的训练锥。

根据新加坡田径协会的Facebook页面显示，高宝璟代表新加坡参加了2023年世界田径公路赛男子半程马拉松比赛，并以1小时21分的成绩获得第二名。

他还曾在 2024 年渣打新加坡半程马拉松全国锦标赛中获得亚军，并且据悉他还参加过其他海外马拉松和比赛，包括澳大利亚、意大利和斯洛文尼亚等国的赛事。

据中央社报道，高某于7月1日被控告，将于10月2日再次出庭。

如果被判犯有入室盗窃罪，他将面临最高七年的监禁和罚款。
