Tourism minister: Cultural MoU to boost Malaysia-Russia collaboration in arts, exchanges and creative economy

Malaysia aims to finalise a cultural cooperation MoU with Russia to enhance collaboration between cultural institutions, practitioners, and entrepreneurs.

Discussions at the St Petersburg forum focused on strengthening Malaysia-Russia cultural ties, featuring initiatives like Russian Cinema Week and student cultural projects.

Minister Tiong emphasised the importance of cultural exchanges in building strategic partnerships and fostering mutual understanding between the two countries.

SIBU, Sept 26 — Malaysia is looking forward to finalising a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cultural cooperation with Russia following the submission of its counterproposal in August, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

He said the proposed MoU would provide a framework for closer collaboration between cultural institutions, practitioners and entrepreneurs from both countries.

“The MoU will provide a framework for closer collaboration among our cultural institutions, practitioners and entrepreneurs, including through cultural showcases, professional exchanges, student engagement and partnerships in cultural tourism and the creative economy,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The Bintulu MP said the matter was discussed during a meeting between a Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) delegation and Russian Federation Culture Minister Olga Borisovna Lyubimova at the St Petersburg International United Cultures Forum.

He said the meeting focused on strengthening Malaysia-Russia cooperation in areas of culture and arts.

Tiong also expressed Malaysia’s appreciation for Russia’s continued cultural engagement, including the Russian Cinema Week held in conjunction with the ninth Malaysian International Film Festival.

Students from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory had also performed under the ‘Rising Stars’ cultural project during their tour of Malaysia in May.

“These initiatives, together with opportunities for Malaysian students to pursue their studies in Russia, have contributed to greater understanding and closer ties between our peoples,” said Tiong, adding that both sides also welcomed further opportunities for Russian students to experience Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

“Motac delegation and I are confident that sustained cooperation in culture and the arts will deepen mutual understanding and contribute to a stronger Malaysia-Russia partnership.”

He added that fostering greater understanding of each other’s cultures was important in building resilient and strategic partnerships between the two countries.

“Culture serves as a vital bridge that brings our peoples closer, strengthens mutual respect, and paves the way for sustainable collaboration in various fields.

“By continuing to exchange ideas, talents, and traditions, we can create a vibrant platform for innovation and shared growth, ultimately contributing to lasting friendship and prosperity between our nations,” said Tiong. — The Borneo Post

他还补充说，增进对彼此文化的了解对于建立两国之间具有韧性和战略意义的伙伴关系至关重要。

“文化是连接两国人民的重要桥梁，它能拉近彼此的距离，加强相互尊重，并为各领域的可持续合作铺平道路。”
