PBS to reinforce unity and integrity while remaining in GRS, says president

PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam aims to strengthen the party as a modern, multiracial entity committed to working with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

He emphasised the party's dedication to unity, stability, and integrity, while continuing to advocate for Sabah's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

PBS seeks to increase public participation among diverse groups and maintain its identity while collaborating with GRS to address key issues like education and employment.

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 26 — Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam wants the party to be strengthened as a modern, multiracial and integrity-driven entity that remains relevant, while reaffirming its commitment to continue working with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

He said the direction of the new PBS leadership would be based on three main pillars — unity, stability and integrity — in line with the theme of the 41st PBS Congress held today, ‘Unity, Stability, Integrity’.

“We may have different views and approaches, but our goal remains the same: to strengthen PBS and fight for Sabah’s future,” he said when delivering his presidential policy speech at the congress here.

He said the struggle concerning the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) was not yet over and PBS would continue to play an active role in defending Sabah’s rights and interests.

“This means our struggle is still a long one. PBS will continue to be an active, relevant and consistent voice in defending Sabah’s rights and interests. We do not want MA63 to merely become a political slogan; we want tangible implementation and results that the people can feel,” he said.

On unity, Dr Joachim said PBS needed to continue serving as a political home that united Sabahans regardless of race, religion, district or background.

He said the party would strengthen public participation by increasing the participation of Malays and Muslim Bumiputera, regaining the confidence of the Chinese community and providing greater opportunities for professionals, women and the younger generation.

“PBS does not belong to one race. PBS belongs to everyone who believes in the struggle for Sabah,” he said.

On GRS, he said PBS would continue to be a loyal, constructive and principled partner in the coalition.

Dr Joachim said PBS’ loyalty to the coalition did not mean that the party would lose its identity, but would continue to voice Sabah’s interests, including MA63, rural development, education, the economy, employment opportunities and the people’s well-being.

“We are with GRS, but we remain PBS. In terms of integrity, positions in PBS are not a gift but a trust that requires leaders to work, go to the ground, listen to the people’s problems and seek solutions,” he said. — Bernama

他表示，新一届巴基斯坦团结工会（PBS）领导层的方向将基于三大支柱——团结、稳定和诚信——这与今天举行的第41届巴基斯坦团结工会大会的主题“团结、稳定、诚信”相一致。

“我们可能持有不同的观点和方法，但我们的目标始终如一：加强沙巴团结党，为沙巴的未来而奋斗，”他在大会上发表总统政策演讲时说道。

他表示，围绕1963年马来西亚协议（MA63）的斗争尚未结束，沙巴团结党将继续在捍卫沙巴的权利和利益方面发挥积极作用。

“这意味着我们的斗争仍将是一场持久战。沙巴团结党将继续积极、有力且始终如一地捍卫沙巴的权利和利益。我们不希望《1963年马来西亚协议》仅仅沦为一句政治口号；我们想要的是切实的落实和人民能够感受到的成果，”他说道。

关于团结，Joachim 博士表示，沙巴团结党需要继续作为一个政治家园，团结沙巴人民，无论其种族、宗教、地区或背景如何。

他表示，该党将通过增加马来人和穆斯林土著的参与来加强公众参与，重获华人社区的信任，并为专业人士、妇女和年轻一代提供更多机会。

他说：“沙巴团结党不属于任何一个种族。沙巴团结党属于所有相信沙巴事业的人。”

关于GRS，他表示PBS将继续成为联盟中忠诚、建设性和有原则的合作伙伴。

约阿希姆博士表示，沙巴团结党对联盟的忠诚并不意味着该党会失去自身特色，而是会继续代表沙巴的利益发声，包括1963年马来西亚协议、农村发展、教育、经济、就业机会和人民福祉。

“我们虽然支持GRS，但我们仍然是PBS的成员。就诚信而言，PBS的职位不是恩赐，而是一种信任，它要求领导者脚踏实地，深入基层，倾听人民的诉求，并寻求解决方案。”他说道。——马新社
