BN to weigh PAS contesting under coalition logo as Melaka election talks intensify

Barisan Nasional (BN) is set to deliberate this week on a proposal for PAS to contest under its logo in the upcoming Melaka state election.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the decision would follow discussions with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and other parties.

While PAS is considering contesting with either its own symbol or that of other component parties, Perikatan Nasional's suspension might influence this decision.

The outcome aims to foster continued cooperation among the coalition partners.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will discuss this week a proposal for PAS to contest under the coalition’s logo in the upcoming Melaka state election.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the matter would be decided after consultations with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and other parties, Harian Metro (HM) reported.

“This week we will hold discussions with several groups, including coalition partners, on which parties will contest. We respect whatever decision they make on the logo or symbol to be used. That is up to them,” he told reporters after officiating the 18th annual general assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

He was responding to questions on whether PAS would be allowed to contest using BN’s logo.

Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who is also PAS secretary general, said the coalition had not ruled out using the PAS logo or those of other component parties in Melaka if PN’s suspension remained in effect.

He added that PAS had no issue contesting under its own symbol, while the use of component party logos was among the options being considered to facilitate continued cooperation.

昨天，国民联盟（PN）秘书长兼伊斯兰党（PAS）秘书长拿督斯里达基尤丁·哈桑表示，如果国民联盟的停职处分继续有效，该联盟不排除在马六甲使用伊斯兰党标志或其他成员党的标志。

他还补充说，伊斯兰党使用自己的党徽参选没有问题，而使用成员党的标志也是正在考虑的选项之一，以促进继续合作。
