Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed condolences on the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, describing it as a significant loss to the nation.

Announcing her demise before his address at the International Future Conference 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar also invited attendees to recite Surah Al-Fatihah in her memory.

Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at the National Heart Institute at the age of 100, as confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences on the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who died this morning.

Anwar described the passing of the wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a great loss to society and the nation.

He said this before delivering the opening address at the International Future Conference 2026 (IFC 2026) at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC) of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Kuala Lumpur campus here today.

The Prime Minister also invited conference participants to join in reciting Surah Al-Fatihah for the deceased.

Earlier, Dr Siti Hasmah was confirmed to have passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning at the age of 100.

News of her passing was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, when contacted by Bernama today. — Bernama
