Saravanan says ready to disclose assets to MACC, has nothing to hide

Former human resources minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan is cooperating with the MACC by providing his asset details and sources since 2019.

He stated that the asset declaration notice is a standard procedure for investigating allegations and emphasised he has nothing to hide.

Saravanan, previously charged with accepting bribes in 2022, affirmed his assets were acquired lawfully through his extensive civil service and political career.

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 28 — Former human resources minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said he is ready to cooperate fully with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by providing details of assets he has owned since 2019, both in Malaysia and abroad, as well as their sources.

Speaking to reporters after receiving an asset declaration notice under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009 this morning, the Tapah Member of Parliament said the notice was part of a standard procedure to enable the commission to investigate any allegations, including determining whether assets were held in his name or those of his family members.

“I have agreed to cooperate with the MACC and provide all the information they need. This is a normal procedure and there is nothing to hide. If there are allegations against anyone, this is how they investigate whether the person’s wealth is out of the ordinary.

“I was here earlier just to receive the notice, and I came with my family (my wife and two children),” he said, adding that the MACC had given him 30 days to provide the relevant information and would grant an extension if needed.

Saravanan also said he was willing to have the asset information he submitted to the MACC disclosed to the media, as he had nothing to hide.

He stressed the assets in his possession had been acquired lawfully, adding that he had more than 20 years of experience in the civil service and as an elected representative.

“I was a member of the Dewan Negara for six years, served four terms as an MP, two terms as deputy minister and then as minister. I must have acquired (my assets) legitimately,” he said.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman had earlier said that notices would be served on Saravanan, his wife and their three children, requiring them to declare their assets within one month. Another child, who is still abroad, would be served a notice in November.

Saravanan was previously charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with three counts of receiving bribes totalling nearly RM1.09 million in connection with the approval of 1,000 foreign worker quotas for a company in 2022. — Bernama

今天上午，塔帕国会议员在收到根据 2009 年马来西亚反贪污委员会法令第 36 条发出的资产申报通知后对记者表示，该通知是标准程序的一部分，以便委员会能够调查任何指控，包括确定资产是否以他的名义或他的家庭成员的名义持有。

“我已经同意配合反贪污委员会的调查，提供他们需要的所有信息。这是正常程序，没有什么需要隐瞒的。如果有人受到指控，他们就会通过这种方式调查此人的财富是否异常。”

“我之前来这里只是为了接收通知，我和家人（妻子和两个孩子）一起来的，”他说，并补充说，反贪污委员会给了他 30 天时间提供相关信息，如果需要，会给予延期。

萨拉瓦南还表示，他愿意将提交给反贪污委员会的资产信息向媒体公开，因为他没有什么可隐瞒的。

他强调自己拥有的资产都是合法获得的，并补充说，他在公务员系统和民选代表岗位上拥有超过 20 年的经验。

“我曾担任上议院议员六年，四届国会议员，两届副部长，之后又担任部长。我的资产一定是合法获得的，”他说。

反贪污委员会首席专员拿督斯里阿卜杜勒·哈利姆·阿曼早前表示，将向萨拉瓦南、其妻子及三个子女发出通知，要求他们在一个月内申报资产。另一个仍在国外的子女将于11月收到通知。
