Manufacturing output more than doubles to 15.4% in August, led by precision engineering

Singapore's manufacturing output rose by 15.4 per cent year-on-year in August, driven mainly by growth in the electronics, precision engineering, transport engineering and general manufacturing clusters.

Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output in August increased by 17 per cent, improving upon the 8.2 per cent growth in July, according to official data from the Economic Development Board (EDB) released on Monday (Sept 28).

On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output decreased 0.5 per cent, falling from the 2.3 per cent in July, while output excluding biomedical manufacturing rose by 5.8 per cent.

Growth in all clusters, except chemicals

EDB data also showed that all clusters recorded growth on a year-on-year basis in August, except chemicals.

Electronics grew 28.5 per cent, supported by strong production of servers and related products, semiconductors and data storage products amid robust artificial intelligence-related demand.

Meanwhile, precision engineering grew 33.9 per cent, led mainly by higher production of semiconductor equipment in the machinery and systems segment.

The transport engineering, general manufacturing and biomedical manufacturing sectors grew by 9.5 per cent, 1.5 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively.

On the 12.7 per cent decline in chemicals, EDB said this was weighed down by the petroleum and petrochemicals segments.

It pointed out that petroleum output was affected by plant maintenance while petrochemicals production continued to be constrained by softer demand and feedstock supply disruptions.

However, the specialities segment recorded output growth, on account of higher production of industrial gases and food additives.

The next monthly manufacturing performance will be released on Oct 26.

经季节调整后，制造业产出环比下降0.5%，低于7月份的2.3%；而剔除生物医药制造业后，制造业产出环比增长5.8%。

除化学品外，所有集群均实现增长

EDB 数据显示，除化学品行业外，所有行业集群在 8 月份均实现了同比增长。

受强劲的人工智能相关需求推动，服务器及相关产品、半导体和数据存储产品产量强劲增长，电子产品行业增长了 28.5%。

与此同时，精密工程增长了 33.9%，这主要得益于机械和系统领域半导体设备产量的提高。

交通运输工程、一般制造业和生物医学制造业分别增长了9.5%、1.5%和0.4%。

针对化工行业12.7%的下滑，经济发展局表示，这是由于石油和石化行业的下滑所致。

报告指出，石油产量受到工厂维护的影响，而石化产品产量则继续受到需求疲软和原料供应中断的制约。

然而，由于工业气体和食品添加剂的产量增加，特种产品部门实现了产量增长。
