Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong has paid tribute to Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, wife of former Malaysian prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following her death at the age of 100.
Dr Siti Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute at around 9.20am on Monday (Sept 28).
In an Instagram post, SM Lee offered his condolences and recalled the many times they had met over the years.
"I was saddened to learn of the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah earlier today. I have known Tun Siti Hasmah for many years and always enjoyed meeting her," he said.
"She was warm and gracious, full of life, and had a wonderful sense of humour."
He also recalled conversations with Dr Siti Hasmah about her love of music and the violin, noting that she continued to perform well into her 90s, including to raise funds for charity.
"Her zest for life was remarkable," he wrote, highlighting her work as a doctor and her dedication to improving the health and well-being of Malaysians, particularly women, children and families.
"Ho Ching and I will remember Tun Siti Hasmah fondly. Our deepest condolences to Tun Mahathir and his family during this difficult time. May she rest in peace," said SM Lee.
Dr Mahathir married Dr Siti Hasmah in 1956. The couple had seven children, including former Kedah chief minister Mukhriz Mahathir.

马来西亚高级部长李显龙对前总理马哈蒂尔·穆罕默德的妻子西蒂·哈斯玛·穆罕默德·阿里博士逝世表示哀悼，她享年100岁。
Siti Hasmah 医生于星期一（9 月 28 日）上午 9 点 20 分左右在国家心脏研究所去世。
李世明在 Instagram 上发帖表示哀悼，并回忆了多年来与死者多次见面的情景。
“得知敦西蒂·哈斯玛博士今天早些时候去世的消息，我感到非常悲痛。我认识敦西蒂·哈斯玛很多年了，一直都很喜欢和她见面，”他说。
“她热情友善，充满活力，而且非常幽默。”
他还回忆起与西蒂·哈斯玛博士的谈话，谈到她对音乐和小提琴的热爱，并指出她一直表演到 90 多岁，包括为慈善事业筹款。
“她对生活的热情令人瞩目，”他写道，并着重介绍了她作为一名医生的工作以及她致力于改善马来西亚人民，特别是妇女、儿童和家庭的健康和福祉的奉献精神。
“我和何晶将永远怀念敦西蒂·哈斯玛。在这个艰难的时刻，我们向敦马哈蒂尔及其家人致以最深切的慰问。愿她安息。”李先生说道。
马哈蒂尔博士于 1956 年与西蒂哈斯玛博士结婚。夫妇俩育有七个孩子，其中包括前吉打首席部长慕克里兹·马哈蒂尔。
