Singapore-registered car drives off after ramming into JB food stall

Malaysian police are on the hunt for the driver of a Singapore-registered car which drove off after ramming into a food stall in Johor Bahru in the early hours of Monday (Sept 28).

The police received a report by a 41-year-old technician at about 2.27am, Johor Bahru south district police chief Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei told New Straits Times.

According to the complainant, he was dining at the porridge stall when the suspect got out of his car and approached him. The suspect then swung an iron pipe at him, which he managed to evade.

The driver, who appeared to be intoxicated, then returned to his car after members of the public arrived to defuse the situation, said the police.

He subsequently sped off in a Singapore-registered car, The Star reported.

Footage of the incident shared on social media showed a white car driving through the stall and crashing into tables and chairs. People in the area can also be heard shouting in alarm.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for dangerous driving.

If found guilty, the man may face a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000 (S$625), or both upon conviction.

The case is also being investigated under Section 324 read with Section 511 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means.

马来西亚警方正在追捕一名驾驶新加坡牌照汽车的司机，该车于周一（9月28日）凌晨在柔佛州新山撞入一家食品摊位后逃逸。

新山南部警区主任阿兹鲁·希沙姆·莫哈末·沙菲告诉《新海峡时报》，警方于凌晨 2 点 27 分左右接到一名 41 岁技术人员的报案。

据报案人称，他当时正在粥摊吃饭，嫌疑人从车里出来向他走来。嫌疑人随后挥舞一根铁管袭击他，但他躲开了。

警方称，这名司机当时似乎处于醉酒状态，在有路人到场劝架后，他返回了自己的车内。

据《星报》报道，他随后驾驶一辆新加坡牌照的汽车逃离现场。

社交媒体上流传的事故视频显示，一辆白色轿车冲进摊位，撞倒了桌椅。附近居民也发出惊恐的喊叫声。

警方表示，此案正根据《刑法》第279条（危险驾驶）进行调查。

如果罪名成立，该男子可能面临最高六个月的监禁、最高 2000 令吉（625 新元）的罚款，或两者并罚。

该案还根据《刑法》第 324 条和第 511 条（以危险手段故意伤人）进行调查。
