Police nab two men ‘chauffeuring’ 690kg of ketum in Toyota Alphard on NSE

Two local men, aged 21 and 31, were arrested for allegedly possessing 690 kilograms of ketum leaves in a vehicle on the North-South Expressway.

The arrest was made by the Highway Patrol from Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.

The suspects are believed to be involved in supplying ketum leaves to the local market, and initial investigations revealed both have prior drug and criminal records.

They are currently detained under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

IPOH, Sept 29 — Two local men were arrested after allegedly possessing 690 kilogrammes of ketum leaves in a car at KM371 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound early yesterday.

Muallim district police chief Supt Khalid Mohamad said the suspects, aged 21 and 31, were arrested by a team from the Highway Patrol (EMPV) Sectors 7 and 8, Northern Zone 4, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) at about 2 am.

He said the two suspects were believed to be runners supplying ketum leaves for the local market.

“An inspection of the Toyota Alphard found 69 black plastic packages containing suspected ketum leaves weighing an estimated 690 kilogrammes, with an estimated market value of RM27,600,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Police also seized the vehicle and a remote-control key for investigation purposes.

Khalid said preliminary checks found that the first suspect had one drug-related record and five criminal records, while the second had two drug-related records and one criminal record.

Both suspects are being detained to assist investigations under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. — Bernama

慕林警区主任哈立德·穆罕默德警监表示，这两名嫌疑人分别为21岁和31岁，于凌晨2点左右被来自高速公路巡逻队（EMPV）第7和第8区、北部第4区、武吉阿曼交通调查和执法部门（JSPT）的一个小组逮捕。

他说，这两名嫌疑人据信是向当地市场供应卡痛叶的走私者。

“对丰田埃尔法的检查发现，车内有 69 个黑色塑料包装，里面装着疑似卡痛叶，估计重达 690 公斤，估计市值 27600 令吉，”他昨天在一份声明中说。

警方还扣押了涉案车辆和遥控钥匙，以作调查之用。

哈立德表示，初步调查发现，第一名嫌疑人有一项涉毒记录和五项犯罪记录，而第二名嫌疑人有两项涉毒记录和一项犯罪记录。
