As of 9 am on September 29, 31 areas in Malaysia recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings, with notable locations including Serian Police headquarters in Sarawak (API 175) and multiple areas in Johor and Melaka.

Meanwhile, 30 areas registered moderate API levels, and seven reported good air quality.

The API scale categorizes air quality from good (0-50) to hazardous (300+).

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — A total of 31 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as at 9 am today.

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the areas included the Serian Police headquarters in Sarawak with the air pollutant index at 175; Pasir Gudang (170) and Larkin (169) in Johor; Bandaraya Melaka (166); Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (165); Johan Setia, Selangor (163); and Batu Muda in the capital (114).

Thirty areas had a moderate API reading while seven areas had a good API reading.

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous. — Bernama
