MMEA ends One Fathom Bank search after recovering last body in Perak

The body of Raja Mohd Rozi Raja Mohamud, the last missing angler from a Sept 14 incident near One Fathom Bank, was found near Kuala Kurau, Perak.

Discovered by local fishermen, the body was identified by his wife at the Taiping Hospital.

Selangor MMEA confirmed the completion of the search for all seven victims, with four survivors and three confirmed fatalities.

The operation, which began on Sept 14, covered extensive waters but concluded on Sept 19 after all efforts were exhausted.

SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The body of the remaining angler reported missing at One Fathom Bank near Pulau Ketam on Sept 14 was found in waters off Kuala Kurau, Perak, yesterday.

Selangor MMEA director Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the body of Raja Mohd Rozi Raja Mohamud, 49, was found floating by local fishermen about 4.5 nautical miles southwest of the Kuala Kurau estuary at 5.25 pm.

He said the fishermen alerted the Kuala Kurau Maritime Zone after spotting the body, which was wearing a blue shirt and camouflage trousers.

“The MMEA vessel Benteng 03 was then dispatched to the location and the body was taken to the Kuala Kurau Marine Police Jetty at 7.30 pm.

“The victim’s body was handed over to the police before being taken to the Taiping Hospital Forensic Medicine Department for formal identification,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Muhaimin said Raja Mohd Rozi was identified by his wife based on the clothes he was wearing.

“The discovery of the final victim means the search for all seven victims involved in the incident is now over,” he said, while thanking rescue teams from various agencies and the local fishing community for their assistance and information throughout the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

Selangor MMEA launched the operation on Sept 14 after receiving a report at 3.35 am on the disappearance of seven anglers at One Fathom Bank.

The six-day operation covered an area of 3,887 square nautical miles in the waters of Selangor and Perak, including Hutan Melintang and Bagan Datuk.

On Sept 19, the operation was called off after no new leads were found.

Four victims survived the incident, while two others, identified as Muhammad Ridzuan Ruhaizat, 37, and Mohamad Shahril Abd Rahman, 43, were found dead in waters off Hutan Melintang. — Bernama

阿卜杜勒·穆海明表示，拉惹·莫哈末·罗兹的妻子根据他所穿的衣服认出了他。

“最后一名遇难者的发现意味着对事件中七名遇难者的搜寻工作已经结束，”他说道，同时感谢来自各个机构的救援队和当地渔民在整个搜救行动中提供的帮助和信息。
