A tragic accident occurred on Sultan Mahmud Bridge in Kuala Terengganu, where a woman, identified as Ainun Wahab and believed to be mentally disabled, was struck and killed by a vehicle while lying in the road.

According to Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor, the incident was reported at 2.15am, and initial investigations indicate that the driver could not avoid the pedestrian due to the short distance.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1957, with the victim's body taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital's Forensic Department.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 2 — A woman, believed to be mentally disabled, was killed after being hit by a car on Sultan Mahmud Bridge, while lying in the middle of the road here early this morning.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said police received a call from a member of the public at 2.15am reporting an accident involving a Proton Waja and a pedestrian.

“Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when the driver, travelling from Gong Badak in Kuala Nerus towards Kampung Gong Sentul in Kuala Berang, hit a pedestrian who was lying in the middle of the road.

“Due to the close distance, the driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian. Ainun Wahab, 39, died at the scene after suffering serious injuries to several parts of her body,” he said in a statement today.

Azli said the victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, while police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1957. — Bernama
