In a recent initiative aimed at streamlining administrative processes, 8,000 businesses in Kuala Lumpur renewed their business licenses within two months, facilitated by a multi-year renewal option introduced in July.

Minister Hannah Yeoh highlighted that discounts were offered for two- and three-year renewals, with 704 and 1,802 businesses opting for these respective durations.

This change, lauded by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, reduces repetitive administrative tasks and provides businesses with greater certainty for future planning.

The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the business community in these efforts.

PETALING JAYA, Oct 3 — A total of 8,000 businesses in Kuala Lumpur renewed their business licences within two months after a new multi-year renewal initiative was introduced in July.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said 704 businesses opted for a two-year renewal, while 1,802 businesses renewed their licences for three years.

“I am happy to share that in just two months, 8,000 businesses in Kuala Lumpur renewed their licences for one year. For a two-year renewal, they receive a five per cent discount, which 704 businesses have opted for, while 1,802 businesses chose a three-year renewal to enjoy a 10 per cent discount on their business licence,” she said.

She said this at The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSCCCI) 122nd Anniversary Dinner here last night, themed ‘Connecting Businesses, Shaping Tomorrow’.

Hannah said the initiative, which allows businesses to renew licences for up to three years, is part of efforts to ease business transactions with the government, noting that repetitive administrative processes take valuable time away from running a business.

“This may sound like a small change, but if you run a business, these things matter. Every additional process takes time away from running a business.

“If you have complied with the rules, I do not think the government should keep asking you to repeat the same process unnecessarily,” she said.

Meanwhile, KLSCCCI as well as the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng welcomed the introduction of business licence renewals for up to three years by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

He said the measure not only reduces repetitive administrative work, but also gives businesses greater certainty to plan ahead.

Ng said the KLSCCCI has remained steadfast in its mission over the past 122 years to unite the business community, represent the voice of businesses, foster commercial and industrial collaboration, and create a more conducive environment for enterprises to grow. — Bernama
