Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek has initiated an audit of security SOPs at a Johor school following the death of Form Four student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairoul Faisal.

Preliminary findings revealed the school had CCTV coverage, but not at the location of the incident.

The audit will assess entrance control, patrols, CCTV coverage, safety protocols, and the security company's performance.

The police are treating the case as a potential homicide.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek today said she has ordered an audit of the security standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the Johor school where Form Four student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairoul Faisal was found dead.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Fadhlina said initial investigations indicated the school in Yong Peng had closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed, but none covered the location where Irene’s body was found.

“I have directed the security and safety aspects of the school to be audited thoroughly,” she said.

“This includes entrance control, patrolling, CCTVs, safety protocols compliance as well as the security company’s fulfillment of its obligations on that particular day.”

Police are investigating the case as potential homicide.
