A fatal accident occurred near Queen Street Bus Terminal in Bugis on Oct 6, with a person trapped under a bus and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

SBS Transit suspended Service 170 at the terminal and arranged alternative boarding points, with staff assisting affected commuters.

Emergency services, including SCDF and police, responded promptly, using hydraulic rescue equipment and managing the scene with visible personnel and vehicles.

SINGAPORE – A person died after an accident near the Queen Street Bus Terminal in Bugis on the evening of Oct 6.

In a media reply, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to a road traffic accident at the junction of Queen Street and Arab Street at about 7pm.

An online check shows the junction to be next to the bus terminal, which runs cross-border bus services to Malaysia, including SBS Transit Service 170, Causeway Link Service CW2, and the Singapore-Johore Express.

A person was found trapped under a bus and was released using hydraulic rescue equipment, SCDF said, adding that the person was then pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

SBS Transit said in a Facebook post on Oct 6 that its Service 170 will not operate out of the terminal due to an accident. Instead, commuters boarding there should use a temporary shelter near the junction of Arab Street and Queen Street.

Those travelling to the terminal would need to alight at the bus stop in front of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes on Ophir Road.

SBS Transit staff are on hand to help commuters, the transport operator added.

Images posted online show several SCDF and police vehicles and personnel at the scene.

A firefighter can be seen kneeling on the floor in front of a bus and seemingly looking underneath the vehicle. Nearby, several people are seen holding up a translucent sheet near the front left wheel of the bus.

ST has contacted the police, SBS Transit and Causeway Link for more information.
