KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — A total of 88 open-space lots in the Federal capital have been gazetted in the first nine months of this year, bringing the number of legally protected lots to 582, covering 476.17 hectares.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the latest gazettement involved 26 lots covering 7.33 hectares, equivalent to about 10 football fields.

“The gazettement provides clearer legal protection for open spaces and helps ensure they are preserved for public benefit.

“Open spaces also play an important role in the urban environment by helping to absorb rainwater runoff, reduce the effects of urban heat and provide recreational areas for the community,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Hannah said the latest 26 lots were located across eight parliamentary constituencies: Bandar Tun Razak (six lots), Segambut (five), Seputeh and Cheras (four each), Wangsa Maju, Lembah Pantai and Batu (two each), and Setiawangsa (one).

In Bandar Tun Razak, the areas are Alam Damai, Taman Damai Jaya and Taman Connaught, while in Segambut, they include Taman Segambut Indah, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Taman Sri Hartamas, Taman Sri Kuching and Taman Sri Bintang.

In Seputeh, the lots are in Taman LTAT, Taman Shanghai, Bandar Bukit Jalil and Taman Esplanad, while Cheras involves Taman Midah, Taman Connaught and Taman Bukit Ria.

The other areas are Taman Desa Melawati and Taman Setapak (Wangsa Maju); Bukit Persekutuan/Jalan Travers (Lembah Pantai); Taman Kok Lian (Batu); and Taman Keramat AU3 (Setiawangsa).

The public can check the list, gazettement status and locations of all 582 open spaces via the MyHijau link on the official Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (PPTGWP) website at www.ptgwp.gov.my .

The facility allows Kuala Lumpur residents and residents’ associations to check the status of open spaces in their neighbourhoods and help monitor and preserve them. — Bernama
