HYOGO (TR) – Police in Amagasaki City have resumed searching a local river for missing body parts after a 46-year-old doctor was arrested on suspicion of mutilating his wife’s corpse and disposing of her remains, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Oct. 5).

Kenji Shimomura, a physician residing in Nishinomiya City, is accused of using a bladed weapon to dismember the body of his 41-year-old wife, Mami, at their former residence in Amagasaki in August of last year. He is then believed to have dumped her severed remains into the Kanzaki River.

According to police, an initial search of the waterway in September led to the discovery of multiple bones. Investigators noted that the recovered fragments bore distinct marks indicating they had been finely chopped.

With several body parts still unaccounted for, authorities mobilized a team of roughly 40 officers on Monday to resume searching the river.

While Shimomura is currently facing charges related to the abandonment and destruction of a corpse, police are continuing to interrogate the doctor, believing he knows the full circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.
