TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a man accused of stealing 150 kilograms of copper wire from a building construction site near JR Osaki Station, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 5).

Tomoya Okubo is suspected of trespassing into the construction site in Shinagawa Ward on Sunday and making off with copper cable valued at approximately 390,000 yen, according to Tokyo police.

The crime was foiled when a security guard caught Okubo red-handed as he attempted to haul the heavy cables away from the scene and immediately alerted authorities.

While police have withheld whether Okubo officially admits to the charges, the suspect has reportedly hinted at carrying out similar thefts in the past. Investigators are currently looking into his potential involvement in a string of related crimes.
