SCDF officer jailed after dozing off at fire engine wheel, injuring 3 colleagues

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer who caused a traffic accident after falling asleep behind the wheel of a fire engine was sentenced to 16 weeks' jail on Thursday (Oct 22).

Muhammad Imran Norzehan, 28, was also disqualified from driving for five years after pleading guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt.

The accident occurred on Sungei Kadut Street 1 at about 1.45pm on Jan 23, 2025.

According to court documents, Imran had dozed off while driving an SCDF Pump Ladder. It veered right into the opposite direction and collided into a parked truck, which surged backwards and hit a prime mover parked behind.

Three passengers in the SCDF vehicle, aged 21 to 22, were seriously hurt.

The crew had been returning to their fire post after an incident. One of the officers seated in the front cabin was trapped and needed to be freed using hydraulic rescue equipment.

The three passengers were national servicemen, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Prior to the accident, Imran had also washed his face as he felt tired.

In court, the defence reportedly said in a mitigation plea that the three injured men had expressed forgiveness and did not want the accident to affect his career.

The crew, as well as Imran's family and colleagues, attended the hearing, Shin Min reported.

一名新加坡民防部队（SCDF）官员因驾驶消防车时睡着而导致交通事故，于周四（10月22日）被判处16周监禁。

28 岁的穆罕默德·伊姆兰·诺尔泽汉承认危险驾驶造成严重伤害的指控，并被吊销驾照五年。

事故发生在2025年1月23日下午1点45分左右，地点位于双溪加株街1号。

根据法庭文件，伊姆兰在驾驶新加坡民防部队（SCDF）的消防云梯车时打瞌睡。车辆向右偏离方向，撞上一辆停放的卡车，卡车倒车后又撞上停在后面的一辆牵引车。

新加坡民防部队车辆上的三名乘客（年龄在 21 岁至 22 岁之间）受重伤。

事发后，消防队员们正返回消防站。一名坐在前舱的消防员被困，需要使用液压救援设备才能救出。

据《新明日报》报道，这三名乘客均为国民服役人员。

事故发生前，伊姆兰因为感到疲倦而洗了脸。

据报道，辩方在法庭上提出减刑请求时表示，三名受伤男子已表示原谅，并且不希望此次事故影响他的职业生涯。

据《新明日报》报道，船员以及伊姆兰的家人和同事都出席了听证会。
