Residents in Singapore started Tuesday (Oct 27) with fresher air and clearer skies as favourable winds continue to keep smoke haze confined over Indonesia's Kalimantan.

In its daily haze situation update on Monday evening , the National Environment Agency (NEA) had forecast the country's 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) to be between 60 to 90 — in the moderate range (0 to 100).

The prevailing winds are expected to blow from the northeast or southeast on Tuesday, while winds are forecast to become variable on Wednesday and Thursday.

Showers are also expected over Singapore and the region till Thursday.

Under these conditions, NEA said the likelihood of smoke haze affecting Singapore is low on Tuesday, adding that wet conditions should help keep hotspot and smoke haze activity suppressed on the subsequent two days.

At 10am, hourly PM2.5 readings were in the normal band (0 - 55 µg/m3) across Singapore, with the highest reading of 32 recorded in the western region.

Meanwhile, PSI ranged between 68 in northern Singapore to 75 in the eastern region.

Members of the public are advised to check the latest hourly PM2.5 concentration readings before participating in outdoor activities.
