A fire broke out at a vegetated area off Gali Batu Depot in Sungei Kadut on Monday (Sept 7) night.
Videos of the incident, which started at about 6.50pm, show the fire just off the perimeter of the depot.
MP for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC Alex Yam took to Facebook to provide an update on the incident at about 1am on Tuesday, saying the fire had spread across about 40,000 sqm of the hillside.
"The fire was confined to the vegetation near Gali Batu Close...Thankfully it caused no damage to infrastructure at the depot, nor were any injuries reported," the fourth-term MP added.
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that there were no reported injuries during the fire, which it said, involved vegetation measure about 200 metres by 200 metres.
It added that firefighters extinguished the fire using three water jets.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This is the second reported case of vegetation fire within a week.
On Sept 3, a patch of vegetation measuring about 30 metres by 20 metres was burnt down.
Metal enclosures with burning joss paper were seen nearby.
In an advisory posted on Aug 12, at the start of the Hungry Ghost Festival , SCDF advised the public to avoid placing joss sticks or candles on grass patches and fields.
It also sought the public's cooperation to ensure that smouldering embers are completely extinguished before leaving, and to use burners and containers placed on sturdy ground and away from combustible materials and residential premises.
Last year, there were 109 cases of vegetation fires in Singapore.
