GPM Malaysia heads to Nepal to assess urgent needs of survivors after deadly floods

Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia has dispatched three humanitarian workers to Nepal to evaluate the needs of flood victims, following devastating floods that have resulted in over 1,367 confirmed deaths and thousands missing.

The team, collaborating with Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, aims to identify essential aid such as hygiene kits, blankets, and basic food supplies.

This mission reflects GPM Malaysia's commitment to delivering targeted post-disaster assistance effectively and calls for solidarity from Malaysians to support those affected.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia has deployed three humanitarian workers to Nepal to assess the needs of victims following the deadly floods in the country.

GPM Malaysia chief executive officer Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the team will be in Nepal from today until Sept 14.

The assessment and survey mission is being carried out in collaboration with Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

He said the team would assess the current situation in affected areas and identify the needs of victims to enable post-disaster assistance to be delivered more effectively.

“Initial priorities for assistance currently include hygiene kits, blankets and basic food supplies for affected families,” he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Fahmi said the disaster on Aug 26 caused extensive destruction in several areas, particularly along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers.

As of Sept 9, Nepalese authorities had confirmed that 1,367 bodies had been recovered, while more than 5,000 people were still reported missing.
