Police nab two ex-convicts in Johor over 11 cases involving housebreaking, robbery and theft

Two former convicts, aged 26 and 27, were rearrested in Iskandar Puteri for allegedly committing 11 criminal offenses, including housebreaking and robbery, following their release from prison in Kedah three years ago.

Acting Police Chief Superintendent Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya said the duo was apprehended after a break-in was reported in Gelang Patah, and they were linked to other crimes, including a copper cable theft worth RM50,000.

The suspects, who were laid off from factory jobs earlier this year, have extensive criminal records and tested positive for methamphetamine.

They remain in custody, aiding with ongoing investigations.

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 15 — Two ex-convicts who were released three years ago have been rearrested for their alleged involvement in 11 separate criminal cases, including housebreaking, robbery and theft, in the district recently.

Iskandar Puteri acting police chief Superintendent Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya said the two male suspects, aged 26 and 27, were arrested in the Tanjung Kupang and Kangkar Pulai areas on Sept 5.

He said the arrests were made following a police report lodged on Sept 4 regarding a break-in at Forest City Starview in Gelang Patah.

“The two suspects, who hail from the northern states, were released from Pokok Sena Prison in Kedah back in 2023. They were previously incarcerated for criminal and drug-related offences.

“The suspects moved to Johor earlier this year to work in a factory, but were laid off in March and were later believed to be active in criminal activities,” he told reporters at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters here today.

Saifullah said initial investigations showed that the suspects were active during the early hours, targeting unoccupied homes and stealing postal parcels, including disposable diapers.

“The suspects were also believed to be responsible for a robbery at a data centre construction site in Gelang Patah on July 28, where they tied up the security guard before stealing copper cables worth RM50,000,” he said.

Following the arrests, Saifullah said investigators seized a laptop, three cameras, four mobile phones, copies of pawn tickets, copies of gold sale receipts and several other items.

In addition, he said police recovered two necklaces, five pairs of earrings, a Proton Waja, and two receipts for the sale of the copper.

“Investigators believe that the 26-year-old suspect, who had 11 prior criminal records, acted as the duo’s mastermind.

“His 27-year-old accomplice had 31 prior criminal records,” he said, adding that both men also tested positive for methamphetamine.

Investigations into the two suspects enabled police to solve several other cases involving housebreaking, breaking into a shophouse, a project site robbery, trespassing and postal parcel theft.

Both suspects have been remanded until Friday to assist with investigations under Sections 379, 457, 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.

“嫌疑人今年早些时候搬到柔佛州的一家工厂工作，但3月份被解雇，后来被认为从事犯罪活动，”他今天在依斯干达公主城警区总部告诉记者。

赛夫拉表示，初步调查显示，嫌疑人在凌晨时分活动，专门针对无人居住的房屋，盗窃邮政包裹，其中包括一次性尿布。

“嫌疑人还被认为与7月28日发生在格朗巴达数据中心建筑工地的抢劫案有关，他们绑住了保安，然后偷走了价值5万令吉的铜缆，”他说。

赛福拉表示，逮捕行动后，调查人员缴获了一台笔记本电脑、三台相机、四部手机、当票复印件、黄金销售收据复印件以及其他一些物品。

此外，他还表示，警方缴获了两条项链、五对耳环、一辆 Proton Waja 汽车和两张铜的销售收据。

“调查人员认为，这名 26 岁的嫌疑人曾有 11 次犯罪记录，他是这伙人的幕后主使。

“他的27岁同伙此前已有31项犯罪记录，”他说，并补充说，两人甲基苯丙胺检测结果均为阳性。

对这两名嫌疑人的调查使警方得以侦破其他几起案件，包括入室盗窃、闯入店屋、工地抢劫、非法侵入和邮政包裹盗窃。

两名嫌疑人已被还押至周五，以协助根据《刑法》第 379、457、395 和 397 条进行调查。
