Thai govt targets 2031 Phase 1 opening of Phuket expressway to cut trips to five minutes

BANGKOK: Deputy Government Spokeswoman Ploytalay Laksameesangchan said on Sept 16, 2026 that Phuket Expressway Phase 1, linking Kathu and Patong, is targeted to open in October 2031. The planned mountain tunnel is expected to cut travel time between the two areas from 30 minutes to five minutes.

The Kathu–Patong expressway project forms part of the government’s efforts to ease traffic congestion and support economic growth in Phuket, Ploytalay said.

曼谷：泰国政府副发言人普洛伊塔莱·拉萨米桑昌于2026年9月16日表示，连接卡图和芭东的普吉高速公路一期工程计划于2031年10月开通。规划中的山地隧道预计将把两地之间的通行时间从30分钟缩短至5分钟。

Ploytalay表示，卡图-芭东高速公路项目是政府为缓解普吉岛交通拥堵和支持经济增长而采取的举措之一。
