CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 71-year-old self-proclaimed taxi driver for allegedly distributing defamatory flyers targeting Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lawmaker Arfiya Eri, reports TBS News (Sep. 16).
Masuo Uezono, a resident of Ichikawa City, was arrested on suspicion of criminal insult. He is accused of slipping the slanderous leaflets into mailboxes at apartment buildings across Ichikawa and Urayasu cities over a one-year period beginning in June 2023.
According to police, the flyers contained malicious statements aimed at the House of Representatives member, including the claim: “Something resembling a real name appears on her blog, but it is basically a fake name.”
The investigation was launched after a lawyer representing the lawmaker approached authorities to report the smear campaign. Police confirmed that Uezono and the lawmaker had no prior acquaintance.
Upon his arrest, Uezono fully admitted to the allegations.
“I distributed them with the goal of bringing Arfiya Eri down as a member of parliament,” the suspect told investigators.

千叶（TR）——据TBS新闻（9月16日）报道，千叶县警方逮捕了一名71岁的自称出租车司机的男子，该男子涉嫌散发诽谤自民党议员阿菲娅·埃里（Arfiya Eri）的传单。
市川市居民上园益夫因涉嫌刑事侮辱被捕。他被指控从2023年6月开始的一年时间里，在市川市和浦安市的公寓楼内，向居民邮箱中投放诽谤传单。
据警方称，这些传单包含针对这位众议院议员的恶意言论，其中包括这样的说法：“她的博客上出现了一个类似真名的东西，但那基本上是一个假名。”
在代表该议员的律师向当局举报这起抹黑事件后，调查随即展开。警方证实，乌埃佐诺与该议员此前素不相识。
被捕后，乌埃佐诺完全承认了这些指控。
“我散发这些传单的目的是为了让阿尔菲亚·埃里下台，让她无法继续担任议员，”嫌疑人告诉调查人员。
