Tokyo high school teacher accused of joining students in burglary says it was a ‘test of courage’

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 26-year-old metropolitan high school teacher for allegedly breaking into a residence with two of his students on the island of Izu Oshima, reports TV Asahi (Sep. 16).

Ryosuke Kimura is accused of entering a home through an unlocked window with the two teenagers. Once inside, the trio reportedly used their smartphone flashlights to search the property for valuables.

Rather than stopping his students, Kimura allegedly offered them criminal advice.

“Buddhist altar bells are made of pure gold and sell for a high price, so you should look for them,” the teacher reportedly told the teens, adding, “Let me get some money, too.”

Police allege Kimura knew the students had been committing burglaries prior to the incident. According to Kimura, the students had invited him to come along.

“They thought of me as a friend,” Kimura said. “They probably figured I wouldn’t say anything if they told me.”

However, statements from the students paint the picture of a highly willing participant. On the day of the crime, one student recalled finding Kimura already waiting in the back seat of their getaway vehicle.

“When I went to get in the car, I was surprised the teacher was there,” the student told police. “When I invited him to do a burglary, he didn’t seem reluctant at all and was enthusiastic.”

The break-in was ultimately thwarted when the trio heard noises indicating the resident was home. They fled the scene empty-handed. The two students were subsequently arrested in connection with a separate theft.

During police questioning, Kimura partially denied the allegations, offering a bizarre justification for his presence at the crime scene.

“I went along feeling like it was a test of courage,” the teacher claimed. “I went into a garage-like area, but I have no memory of entering the room through the window.”

东京（TR）——据朝日电视台（9月16日）报道，东京警视厅逮捕了一名26岁的东京都高中教师，他涉嫌伙同两名学生闯入伊豆大岛的一处住宅。

木村亮介被指控伙同两名青少年通过未上锁的窗户进入民宅。据报道，三人进入屋内后，使用手机的手电筒功能搜寻贵重物品。

木村非但没有阻止他的学生，反而向他们提供犯罪建议。

据报道，这位老师告诉这些青少年：“佛教祭坛的钟是用纯金制成的，售价很高，所以你们应该去找找看。”他还补充道：“我也想赚点钱。”

警方称，木村在案发前就知道这些学生曾犯下盗窃罪。据木村供述，是这些学生邀请他一同前往的。

“他们把我当朋友，”木村说。“他们可能觉得就算告诉我，我也不会说什么。”

然而，学生们的证词却描绘出一个积极参与犯罪的形象。案发当天，一名学生回忆说，他发现木村已经坐在他们逃跑车辆的后座上等候了。

“我准备上车的时候，惊讶地发现老师也在车里，”这名学生告诉警方。“我邀请他一起去行窃，他一点也不犹豫，反而兴致勃勃。”

最终，三人听到屋主在家的动静，入室盗窃计划被挫败。他们空手逃离现场。随后，两名学生因涉嫌另一起盗窃案被捕。

在警方讯问期间，木村部分否认了这些指控，并对他出现在犯罪现场给出了一个奇怪的理由。

“我当时感觉像是在考验勇气，”这位老师说道。“我走进了一个类似车库的地方，但我完全不记得自己是怎么从窗户进入房间的。”
